Big Brother fans call for major changes ahead of new series launch on ITV

Big Brother set to return this Autumn

Big Brother is set to make a triumphant return this Sunday on ITV, with a fresh group of contestants vying for victory and the ultimate prize.

Presenters AJ Odudu and Will Best are poised to take the reins once more, following their stints on a civilian series and a celebrity edition.

With the live launch just around the corner, fans have flocked to Reddit to discuss their hopes for the new season.

A particular thread titled 'Changes Big Brother needs to make when it returns this weekend' has sparked interest among the show's aficionados.

One passionate fan highlighted the need for greater age diversity among the housemates, pointing out: "Out of the 16 housemates cast in last year's series, only four were older than 30 Trish Balusa, 33, Dylan Tennant, 39, Kerry, 40, and Farida, 50."

They added that having older contestants would not only add more life experience to the mix but also bring individuals who are more grounded in their identity, reports OK!.

Moreover, the same user called for an upgrade to the shopping tasks, suggesting that more challenging and prolonged tasks could ramp up the drama for viewers. Another proposal was to feature more legendary past contestants on the spin-off show Late and Live.

The user concluded by writing: "Big Brother has only been able to become such a phenomenon thanks to the personalities who temporarily give up their normal life to live with strangers in a house rigged with cameras."

In tribute to their enduring dedication, and to glean more understanding of the incoming group's dynamics, there have been calls for a return of some well-known personalities on the spin-off show, 'Late and Live'.

Reddit users rapidly dived into the discussion, with one posting: "Make it a full 3 months like it used to be would be my request."

Another chimed in: "Definitely agree about the age thing. I think contestants in there 20s and 30s are extremely conscious about what they say/ do because they know how bad cancel culture has gotten on social media over the recent years."

They yearn for authenticity, exemplified by older participants, as another fan said: "Older contestants are way less likely to care about this and just be themselves e.g farida ( more people like her pls)." (sic)

And not forgetting one other user's critique on the game's structure, which read: "We need worse tasks with better punishments, no jail rubbish."

Big Brother returns this Sunday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
