Nickelodeon's 'Rugrats' Is Getting Its Own Live-Action Film Adaptation

Nickelodeon's iconic Rugrats show is set to hit the big screen, with Paramount currently in the early development stages of a live-action and CGI hybrid feature film adaptation of the beloved '90s animated children's TV series.

Tugging at the nostalgia surrounding the beloved characters, fans will once again see Tommy Pickles and his gang of troublemakers including pals Chuckie Finster and Phil and Lil DeVille return to our hearts as animated characters in the film set in the real world. At this time, it is uncertain who from the original TV sho will return. Surrounding the main foursome were bully Angelica Pickles (and her doll Cynthia), Tommy's baby brother Dil Pickles, Spike the dog and their parents Didi and Stu Pickles. Others set to appear in the film are Chas Finster, Drew and Charlotte Pickles and Betty and Howard DeVille.

Actor Mikey Day from Saturday Night Live is penning the script alongside head writer Street Seidell. Karen Rosenfelt is producing the film adaptation with co-creators Arlene Klasky and Gábor Csupó, while Jason Moore, who worked on Pitch Perfect, Tina Fey-Amy Poeheler comedy Sisters is set to direct and Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel's romcom, Shotgun Wedding. The first episode of the Nickelodeon series premiered in 1991 and later ran for several seasons. A core memory amongst late Millennials, the show was also the inspiration behind many theatrical films within the same franchise including The Rugrats Movie in 1998, 2000's Rugrats in Paris and 2003's Rugrats Go Wild. In 2021, a TV sequel show titled All Grown Up! and a Paramount+ reboot was aired.
