Rob Rinder threatens GMB exit as Ed Miliband winter fuel claims sparks heated clash

Good Morning Britain's Rob Rinder quizzes Ed Miliband

Rob Rinder hinted that he would need to "find a new job" after clashing with Labour's Ed Miliband on Good Morning Britain. ITV welcomed the politician onto the breakfast show as the TV judge and his co-star, Kate Garraway, grilled him over the Labour party's latest moves.

The latest controvery comes after the current government have been offering companies the chance to have breakfast with the Business Secretary in exchange for £30,000. Businesses are understood to have been invited to a restaurant for the "rare chance" to "gain insight" from Jonathan Reynolds.

Rob read out the alleged invite word for word, putting it to Mr Miliband, as he asked: "Now what's your message to whoever it was in the Labour party that was offering £30,000 for some influence. Do you think that person should be sacked?"

Seeminlgly unbothered, Ed replied: "'Don't do it again' is my message." Perplexed, Rob repeated the politician's words, seemingly unimpressed.

He added: "Well, no doubt, who knows, maybe after this I'll be looking for a new job."

Elsewhere in the heated interview, Ed was asked about Rachel Reeves' decision to cut the Winter Fuel Allowance - leaving many pensioners in fuel poverty this winter.

The politician replied saying that the Winter Fuel Allowance cut was "the right thing to do" but it was "a difficult decision". Speaking to the presenters, Mr Miliband said: "She took the decision that she wanted to concentrate the help on those who needed it the very most.

"Now, you can agree with that decision or disagree with that decision." He added that she is heading a drive to take up Pension Credit and upping the State Pension.

Ed continued: "Yes, it's a difficult decision, yes, I understand why people have concerns about it, but it's the right thing to do."

Viewers at home bashed Mr Miliband on social media, with one writing on X/Twitter: "This is disingenuous from Ed Miliband. Rachel Reeves said that she cut the WFA to fill the black hole in the finances for this year. Re targeting the money was not given as a reason until people pointed out that many didn’t claim pension credit. #GMB."

Another added: "Ed Miliband is a clown. Him and his party are happy to let pensioners freeze while giving BILLIONS away to Ukraine & overseas Clinate Aid. Absolute p*ss take!"

A third posted: "Difficult for Ed? I doubt it. Shame on Labour for implementing this policy without notice."
