Frank Lampard, the former Everton and Chelsea boss, has confessed he would be "crazy" to reject a chance to manage England in the future. The 46-year-old is currently without a club after a brief stint at Stamford Bridge during the 2022/23 season, following his dismissal from Goodison Park after just one year.

Over the past year, Lampard has been linked with various roles within the England set-up, including the Under-21 job and more recently, the senior role. With over 100 caps for England during his distinguished playing career, Lampard is well aware of the pressures that come with representing the country, but this wouldn't deter him if he were ever offered the top job.

Speaking on The Sports Agents podcast, he said: "As an English player who played 100-plus times, and an English person who's very proud of course, the England set-up is something... I never dreamed of playing as many times for England, let alone now as a coach.

"So, now as a coach, I think I would be crazy to sort of say, 'Oh no, that would never interest me'. It would have to be something that they would want me to do, and have to be something that I want to do and thought I could add value to it in any way."

Gary Lineker, the host of Match of the Day, named Lampard as a potential successor to Gareth Southgate before the former Three Lions chief stepped down from his role back in July.

During a summer episode of The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker expressed: "I think he's [Lampard] been a bit unlucky in his managerial career in some ways. He gets it tactically and he's Frank Lampard.

"I think this is Gareth Southgate's last tournament whatever, whether we win it or not. But I wouldn't disregard Frank. I think players would respect him immensely."

Despite stepping back from the game, Lampard confirmed earlier this year that he was prepared to return to management after turning down several offers since his second stint with Chelsea.

"Some opportunities have come my way, they didn't feel right for the time. So I've kind of taken that decision a bit at times," he revealed to talkSPORT.

"But now I feel ready so we will see what opportunities come up. I'm certainly ready to work. I love doing what I do, so we will see."
