More than 7,100 subsidised flats go on sale

The Housing Authority on Thursday began accepting applications for the latest batch of subsidised flats under the Home Ownership Scheme. More than 7,100 flats are on sale in Kai Tak, Yau Tong, Kwun Tong, Tung Chung and Tuen Mun. The units range in size from 17.3 to 47.4 square metres and are on sale for between HK$1.43 million and H$4.67 million – 70 percent of the market value. One man putting in an application at the authority's office in Lok Fu said it was his sixth attempt to get a subsidised home for his son. "Private homes always cost more than subsidised ones. Even if you're purchasing a newly built private flat, it's still not cheap, unless you're buying one in the New Territories. Those located in urban areas are still expensive," he said. "Just like the ones in Lohas Park where I live, they do not come cheap. A one-bedroom flat costs HK$5 million. Therefore, I'll definitely apply for a subsidised home." Another man said he was hoping to get a flat in Kai Tak, close to his family in Hung Hom. "Because I want to have my own family. I am hoping to take the first step by buying a home. I am optimistic about the district's potential because there will be a lot of development there," he said. The application period ends on October 23, with a ballot for the homes expected before the end of the year.
