BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay begs 'please don't' as co-star makes unusual offer

BBC Breakfast: Jon Kay asks John Watson not to sing

BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay was left unimpressed on Tuesday morning as his co-star made an odd request. During the show, presenter John Watson was bringing BBC viewers the latest in the sporting world.

A pre-recorded interview of England captain Heather Knight played on-screen, detailing the team's trip abroad. Heather admitted the highlight for her was singing a duet with Nat Sciver to Summer Nights.

After the clip played, John said: "I think I'd be singing if I was leaving this weather behind, wouldn't you?"

Cutting in, Jon Kay quipped: "Please don't John, please don't!" Looking upset, his co-host replied: "Come on, can't I? Please come on!"

However, it looks as though the BBC stars may be showing off their vocal skills away from the camera sometime soon.

Jon added: "Nina (Warhurst) has been talking about organising a karaoke night, so maybe your time has come?"

As John jokingly replied he'd follow his lead, the BBC star burst out laughing.

Keen, he added: "Let's do it together!" Curious to know more about his singing habits, Sarah Campbell questioned what his go-to karaoke song was

Although he wasn't eager to disclose too much information on air, he replied: "No, no phones allowed for that particular performance I think!"

As he quickly moved the conversation on, Sarah continued to chuckle.

Sarah has been presenting BBC Breakfast alongside Jon this week as his usual co-star has been absent from the show.

Sally Nugent is usually seen on the iconic red sofa on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays before Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt step in for the last half of the week.

However, the 53-year-old isn't at the helm this week, with her whereabouts unknown as the broadcaster has not disclosed why she's not presenting.

Although it's not the first time Sally has been missing from the sofa as last month she took a break from her hosting duties to enjoy a holiday.

It's not the only presenter shake-up viewers have seen recently as Nina Warhurst was hosting next to Charlie Stayt on Saturday morning, replacing Naga Munchetty.

Last month, Nina's youngest son made an appearane on the programme, melting the hearts of fans.

While Nina spoke about dementia on the show, her son started to seem unimpressed as she joked: "He's yawning, sorry I do talk a lot don't I?"

As he gave a nod in agreement, Nina burst out laughing as Naga replied: "You said it!"

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
