Luke Donald has lifted the lid on a bizarre evening that his Team Europe squad enjoyed whilst competing at the Ryder Cup last year.
Donald led his team to victory in fine style against the United States in Rome, with his captaincy picks and tactics proving vital in a landmark win. Team Europe celebrated in style, though Donald has shed light on one of the most memorable parts of the tournament – a meal on the eve of the competition getting underway.
Before the first ball was even teed, Donald organised for all players and their families to enjoy a meal in the team hotel – though there was an enormous twist, tennis legend Novak Djokovic would be one of the waiters.

Donald told the Daily Mail: “There were a good few minutes there where the guys had no idea who he was. He was wearing a wig and a padded suit under the uniform and had decided to sneak himself in.

I think it was Ludvig Aberg’s partner who was first to do a double-take. It was pretty fun.”
Donald opted against bowing out from his Team Europe duties on a win and he is set to take the reins once more in 2025 at Bethpage Black in New York, in what promises to be a tense ‘away day’ for his troops.

It took a good three or four weeks after we won before I could sleep normally. I wouldn’t give up that whole experience for anything and the thought of doing it in America, really excited me.
“It’s always going to be more challenging, winning an away Ryder Cup, and I know we will be underdogs. But that’s never been a deterrent for me. Probably the opposite.”
