Fire breaks out at Cathay Pacific business lounge

Cathay Pacific says a fire broke out on Saturday at one of its business class lounges at Hong Kong International Airport. Police said the fire broke out just before 10 am and 250 people, including 50 staff members, had to be evacuated. Firefighters put out the blaze within an hour, and there are no reported injuries. In a statement, Cathay Pacific said the blaze had started at supporting facilities at the Pier Lounge, which is near Gate 65 in Terminal 1, and that staff immediately alerted firefighters. The airline apologised to affected passengers, saying the lounge is now closed for repairs. It added that it had arranged for passengers to transfer to other Cathay lounges prior to boarding, and would be contacting eligible checked-in passengers about the new arrangements.
