Kylie Minogue fights back tears on The One Show sofa recalling Madonna duet

TOS: Kylie Minogue reveals reason behind Madonna collab

Kylie Minogue was visibly emotional on The One Show as she shared the poignant reason behind her duet with pop legend Madonna. The Australian pop star appeared on the BBC One show on Friday (September 27) to promote her global tour, with tickets already being eagerly purchased by fans.

The conversation shifted towards Kylie's recent performance with Madonna, where they delivered a rendition of Gloria Gaynor's classic 'I Will Survive' in Los Angeles in June. However, Kylie revealed there was a deeper sentiment behind the cover - it was Madonna's tribute to the Aussie star's triumph over breast cancer.

The show's host, Alex Jones, queried the pop icon: "Now, earlier this year, you duetted with Madonna. What was that like - because for us, it's like, oh my gosh, the Queen and the princess together".

In response, Kylie said: "For a 14-year-old me just the jaw - I mean, can't get to take it off the floor. It came about really organically."

"The request came through her manager. I've known him for many years, and I just presumed when I was asked to join her on stage, it would be her Vogue section, where she has a different guest every night that holds up the card. It's like 10 out of 10. It was to do a cover of 'I Will Survive'.", reports Wales Online.

Kylie, fighting back tears, shared: "And her reasoning for that was twofold - one which she sadly lost her mother to breast cancer, and she knew about some of my story, and also just being two women who survived in the industry, and so it was just really amazing moment, and also some people going 'Oh, is this really happening? '".

"I have some friends who will not forgive me (and said) - 'Why didn't you tell me? ' I just kept it as a surprise".

She quipped: "I may have lost some friends but I did get to sing with Madonna!".

The Aussie pop sensation Kylie Minogue revealed in 2005 that she was battling breast cancer, leading to the postponement of her concert tour for treatment. She announced in January 2006 that her treatment was successful and there were no signs of the cancer returning.

Kylie Minogue appeared on The One Show alongside Taskmaster's Greg Davies and Alex Horne, and Space scientist Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock.
