Channel 4 Grand Designs fans brand homeowner neighbour from hell over 'disastrous' build
Kevin McCloud was back with a brand new build on Channel 4's Grand Designs - but fans branded it a "disaster".
The show is iconic for following some of Britain's most ambitious self-building projects, as intrepid individuals attempt to design and construct the home of their dreams.
On this evening's episode (September 25), the presenter followed the progress of Zahid and Ferzana, from Leeds, as they set out to transform an obsolete coastguard station in East Yorkshire into a cantilevered, three-storey home made of steel and glass.
They had high hopes of enhancing their panoramic sea views. But with a tight budget of £325,000 and a goal of finishing in 10 months, their ambitions may have been set a little too high - with the windows alone costing more than £80,000.
The pair initially had their son Yusef manage the project but he soon jumped ship when he was offered a career opportunity that he could not turn down. Then the coronavirus pandemic hit meaning that the build was hit by further delays.

The house boasted huge windows which cost more than £80,000 (Image: Channel 4)What started as a ten month project was soon revealed to have taken a whopping five years to complete. But it was not the man behind the build that viewers at home felt sorry for - it was his neighbours.

One wrote: "That neighbour must have the patience of a saint because I’d have killed them after two years. #granddesigns."
Another added: "This project is going to be ripped out or stopped, it looks awful and if I was the neighbour I would’ve told him to f*ck off #GrandDesigns."

"Not fitting in with the countryside either, although the views are amazing! Feel for his neighbour looking at a frame for 2 years! #granddesigns."
