Trent Alexander-Arnold has declined to guarantee his future at Liverpool beyond the summer, stating that his decision will be influenced by the club's success.

The contract of Alexander-Arnold is set to expire in June, sparking fears among supporters that the vice-captain might sever his two-decade-long relationship with the Reds and depart on a free transfer.

However, the England defender recognises that openly expressing a desire to remain at Liverpool beyond this season would weaken his bargaining power.

Alexander-Arnold, 25, maintains that his discussions with the club will stay confidential and emphasised that his primary motivation is winning trophies.

"The most important thing is trophies, if I'm honest," he declared. "I want to win trophies. I'm a player who's highly motivated by trophies and winning things and being elite.

"That's probably the main factor of anything. If you've got a personality that is an elite athlete that wants to win and will do anything to win, then that's what drives them.

"I've been at the club 20 years now. I've signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public and this one won't be either."

When pressed further about his future, Alexander-Arnold simply stated: "I want to be a Liverpool player this season is what I'll say."

The prospect of captaincy is another enticing factor for Alexander-Arnold, who has always aspired to lead his childhood club.

"I want to captain this club, that's a goal of mine," he added.

"Whether that happens is out of my hands, to be honest."
