Antiques Roadshow guest left with head in hands over valuation of Olympic medals
An Antiques Roadshow guest was left speechless as she put her head in her hands after learning the surprising value of her late fathers Olympic medal.
During a recent episode of the BBC hit show, the show came to Pitzhanger Manor in Ealing, West London and there were a few higher-end valuations including a unique engagement ring, a note written by Oscar Wilde but it was an Olympic medal from the 1930s which left one guest speechless.
Expert valuer Marc Allum delivered the good news to the guest, who had brought along a collection of her dad, Charles Holland, Olympic memorabilia that he had collected since the 1930.
Speaking about her fathers success, she said: “He was a great cyclist. He was in two olympic games and the Tour De France so he did everything. We’ve got loads of photos, medals and stacks of stuff.”
Standing next to a few of Charles medals and olympic shirt, she told Marc: “He was very modest about his success and we didn’t see any of this for many years until we found a big suitcase after cleaning the house up when he died and we found all this stuff that he kept for years.”

One Antiques Roadshow guest was speechless (Image: BBC)Marc was impressed with the collection as he said: “I look at this and I’m astonished really to be honest with you. So what I’ve done is chosen some highlights from his career.”
The expert went on to look at the collection in detail and left his guests shocked as he revealed the price of their items.
He said: “Right I’m going to try to put a price on this and it’s really really difficult and you know what I think your collection is worth £15,000 to £20,000."

It was clear that no one was expecting to hear that evaluation as she gasped and screamed: “No” Marc confirmed: “Yes absolutely.”
The guest couldn't believe what she heard and put her head in her hands and said: “Oh my God.” Marc added: “I don’t think I have any hesitation putting that evaluation on it.”
Speaking to the camera, a pleased guest said: “An amazing evaluation and you don’t actually think what those medals are worth but you do realise how rare they are and £15,000-£20,000 is shocking to me. I’m absolutely shocked and wowed by it.”
