Coronation Street fans 'work out' Joel Deering is killed as resident sent to prison

Corrie: Lauren asks Ellie for help

Coronation Street enthusiasts reckon Joel Deering, portrayed by Callum Lill, could meet his demise before justice catches up to him for his misdeeds, while others anticipate his eventual downfall.

Monday's action-packed episode followed Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) and DS Swain (Vicky Myers) as they intensified their quest to bring Joel down by consulting another one of his victims.

The pair engaged with Ellie, who initially was too scared to come forward but, having paid a visit to Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) in the hospital found the courage to declare she would stand in court against Joel.

Furthering their investigation, Dee-Dee visited Joel's past workplace, coercing them into retracting a Non-Disclosure Agreement that Ellie was pressured into signing regarding her liaison with Joel and any correspondence between them.

Exhibiting her lawyerly charm, Dee-Dee managed to win cooperation from the employer, ensuring their backing of Ellie's testimony if required in a trial, reports the Liverpool Echo.

As the episode wrapped, Dee-Dee couldn't resist goading Joel - a move that has many pondering whether this signifies his eminent end.

In an intriguing exchange, when quizzed on her workload, Dee-Dee quipped: "I am always busy, me. I am learning to play the banjo."

A perplexed Joel could only respond: "Oh right," leading his ex to tease: "Actually, I am getting quite good."

Joel responded, "Well maybe one day I'll see you busking on these streets."

To which Dee-Dee replied with foreboding: "Maybe, that's assuming you'll be free to walk these streets," and then walked away mysteriously.

Spectators flocked to X, the platform once known as Twitter, to voice their predictions, with a fan suggesting, "I think Swain will shoot Joel dead. Cop mode on, she'll do it to protect her women. (Carla, Dee Dee and Betsy)"

Another concurred: "Yes, I definitely think Joel's time is up and he will be killed off! " A different viewer remarked, "Oh dear, now she is stalking our dear Joel. He really needs an injunction. His life could be in danger here. #Corrie."

Meanwhile, one said: "Ellie has done the right thing. Joel's downfall is getting closer," and another mirrored the sentiment: "Oh another Joel victim hopefully take him down #Corrie."

A further comment read: "I really hope it is the beginning of the end for Joel! #Corrie," However, if the audience's speculations hold 'true', and Joel does meet his demise, DS Swain might find herself behind bars...

Elsewhere in the drama, Bethany Platt, played by Lucy Fallon, received an extraordinary career opportunity from Debbie Webster, portrayed by Sue Devaney.

Debbie hinted at a chance for Bethany to make a break into journalism with a trip to a cosmetic clinic in Turkey.

Yet, show insiders have disclosed a grim twist for Bethany following her decision to undergo liposuction she suffers from sepsis due to a badly handled operation.

Discussing her character's gripping new plot, Lucy expressed her feelings: "When I first heard about it I was pleased that they have trusted me with it because it's an important storyline and of course, I really enjoy doing issue-based storylines. Obviously, this is really hard-hitting, which is exciting from an actor's point of view, but it does come with quite a lot of pressure and responsibility to get it right because this happens to real-life people."

Shedding light on the gravity of the subject matter, she added, "The storyline is also incredibly important as there are countless horror stories out there of people talking about their experiences of cosmetic surgery abroad. I really hope this storyline can make people rethink going abroad for cosmetic surgery."

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV.
