Man, 18, in court charged with murder of mum and two siblings

An 18-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of two teenagers and a woman.

Nicholas Prosper, 18, was arrested after officers found Juliana Prosper, 48, Kyle Prosper, 16, and Giselle Prosper, 13, dead at a flat in Leabank, off Wauluds Bank Drive in Luton, Bedfordshire, on Friday.

Prosper appeared at Luton Magistrates Court this morning wearing a grey jumper and spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

He has also been charged with a number of other offences related to the murder, the court heard.

This includes purchasing or acquiring a 12-ball Nikko shotgun in Luton without holding a certificate on September 12 and possession of a shotgun on September 13.

Prosper was also charged with possession of a bladed article, a kitchen knife, in a public place in Bramingham Road, Luton on September 13.

Family members packed out the public gallery, many of whom were tearful and shook their heads during Prosper’s short appearance in the dock.

When Prosper was led away from the dock, a man stood up to look him in the eye and said: ‘I still love you son, I know it’s not your fault ok.’

Prosper has been remanded into custody and was ordered to appear at Luton Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on September 18.

Addressing Prosper, the judge said: ‘The matters with which you are charged have to go to the crown court, as do the associated offences.

‘Your case will be sent to Luton Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on September 18.

‘I have no power to consider bail. You are therefore remanded into custody for those matters until that date.’

Giselle’s former school, Lea Manor High School, paid tribute to her.

Headteacher Jess Pather said: ‘We are deeply shocked at Lea Manor High School by the tragic incident that occurred on Friday in our local community and devastated by the loss of our pupil, Giselle Prosper.

‘Giselle was a beautiful soul and a model pupil, she excelled in all her subjects and will be sorely missed, particularly by her friends in Year 9.

‘Lea Manor High School will be open as usual on Monday and specialist bereavement counsellors will be available to provide additional support to our students and staff during this difficult time.

‘It will take us all time to process what has happened and our thoughts go out to everyone in our community and neighbouring schools who have been affected.’

A statement from Kyle’s school, Cardinal Newman Catholic School, said: ‘We are shocked by the tragic incident that occurred on Friday in our local community and deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own students, Kyle Prosper.

‘This is devastating news to all those who knew and loved Kyle and it will take some time to come to terms with the profound sense of loss.

‘We have already sent important information to parents and carers that outlines the support we have in place for students when they return to school on Monday.

‘We know this will be a difficult time for students and staff and we will do all we can to support them with love and compassion.

‘We extend our heartfelt condolences to Kyle’s family on their immeasurable loss, to his friends and to all those in neighbouring schools who are coming to terms with their own loss. We pray for all those who have died in this tragic incident.’

Neighbours living at the block described hearing ‘bangs’ that sounded like ‘gun shots’ that morning.
