FPL injury update: Palmer, Watkins, Solanke, Odegaard, Ake, Foden latest for GW4

After a long and let’s face it tedious international break, the Premier League returns this weekend with a tasty fixture line-up to look forward to.

Manchester United face a tough test on the road to Southampton, while early-season high-flyers Manchester City and Liverpool have winnable matches at home.

It should mean plenty of points for Fantasy Premier League big-hitters Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah, who have both started the campaign on fire.

But what about those players unlikely to be in action? Well, ahead of the upcoming GW4 deadline, Express Sport have detailed all the latest FPL injury news.

It could be now or never as far as FPL managers owning Ollie Watkins are concerned.

Yet to score this season, the striker has missed a whole host of chances, but should get the opportunity to break his duck this weekend at home to Everton.

That’s if he’s fit enough, as the attacker pulled out of international duty with England earlier this month. His condition remains unclear until Villa's pre-match press conference.

Martin Odegaard

It’s probably easier to check who is available for Arsenal’s midfield than who isn’t right now, such is the severity of the Gunners’ injury crisis.

Martin Odegaard is the latest to go down with a knock, having picked up an ankle injury while away with Norway.

He’ll join midfield partners Declan Rice (suspended) and Mikel Merino (injured) in the stands for this weekend’s north London derby clash against Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou was coy about the extent of Dominic Solanke’s injury before the international break, insisting it wasn’t a serious issue.

Speaking ahead of the Newcastle defeat last month, Postecoglou said: "Dom is close but we're going to be a bit cautious with him. We've got a big programme post the international break, so he'll miss out on Sunday."

There’s every chance he’ll be involved against Arsenal, but it’s unlikely to be from the start.

Nathan Ake & Phil Foden

It’s one in one out as far as Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are concerned.

In the week that Phil Foden returned to training, Nathan Ake went down with an injury while on international duty, with the defender likely to be out for some time.

It’s a blow for FPL players, given Ake would’ve likely played and maybe even scored points at home to Brentford.

Another Spurs player missing from their final game before the international break, Tottenham fans will be crossing their fingers and hoping Micky van de Ven is involved this weekend.

The good news is it's reported Van de Ven's knock isn't believed to be serious, with the defender unlikely to miss any more matches.

However, he's likely to need a late check to see if he's fit enough to be involved from the off against rivals Arsenal.

Cole Palmer

After featuring over 50 times for club and country last season, there’s been an increased focus on managing Cole Palmer’s load this time around.

He’s already been left out of Chelsea’s Conference League squad to reduce his game time, which should represent good news for FPL owners, given he’s likely to feature whenever available in the Premier League.

That starts this weekend away to Bournemouth - a match Chelsea can ill-afford any more dropped points in.

The GW4 deadline is at 11am on Saturday morning.
