Dexter: Original Sin Trailer Reveals The Making Of A Serial Killer

The original Dexter series was one of the biggest hits that Showtime has ever had, so it's understandable why the premium cable network won't let him go. Even though Michael C. Hall's serial killer apparently died in Dexter: New Blood--and is somehow coming back for Dexter: Resurrection--the prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, will breathe some new life into the franchise later this year. And in the first trailer for the show, Hall lends his voice to the formative years of a much younger Dexter, as played by Patrick Gibson.

Original Sin takes place in 1991, roughly 15 years before the events of the first Dexter series. As shown in the trailer above, young Dexter has always had his darker urges. But now he's starting to act out on them. '90s teen actor icon Christian Slater is co-starring in the series as Dexter's adoptive father, Harry Morgan. Presumably the show will demonstrate how the "Code of Harry" allowed Dexter to channel his urges towards killing evil people instead of innocents.

The show is also setting up Dexter's career as a blood splatter analyst by placing him at Miami Metro Police in a forensics internship. The trailer briefly depicts younger versions of characters Dexter knew on the first show, including Angel Batista (James Martinez) and Maria LaGuerta (Christina Milian). But the focus is largely on Dexter, Harry, and a new character, CSI chief Tanya Martin, as played former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar.
