BBC Strictly star 'goes too far' as she nearly 'lets slip' pro partner name in blunder

BBC Breakfast: Sam Quek almost reveals Strictly partner

Strictly Come Dancing star Sam Quek had to halt herself on Thursday's BBC Breakfast as she nearly let slip her pro partner's name.

The Olympian and sports star, 35, is one of the celebrities taking to the dance floor this autumn and BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty decided to grill Sam about her pro partner, which won't be revealed until this Saturday during the launch show.

Asking if her pro dance partner will be watching her interview on BBC Breakfast, Sam had to stop herself as she nearly dropped his name. Sam said: "I hope so and I was about to say his name!" as she covered her mouth while being warned to be 'very careful'.

She added of her pro partner: "My partner is brilliant, he's got patience, he's funny, he's able to have a laugh but also bring me back to the: 'Right, we need to concentrate, move on.' I'm just loving every single minute."

At the end of the interview, host Naga, 49, attempted to get details once again as she asked: "What's the name of your partner?" to which Sam replied: "Nearly, nearly Naga, nearly! Well played!" with a giggling Naga replying: "It was worth a go!"

Elsewhere during the chat, Sam was asked about Strictly's new chaperone measures after pro dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima were axed following misconduct claims, which Giovanni, 33, denies.

The BBC are now putting a member of the Strictly Come Dancing production staff in all future rehearsals as a chaperone following recent complaints.

Talking about the new measures, Sam said: "I think chaperone probably sounds a little bit, in my opinion, like they're following us around and babysitting us. They're telling us what to do and where to be, it's not like that at all.

"We've literally just got someone in the room and we're just doing our thing. We also have a VT crew, video crew in there recording your training. But to be honest, as I say, you don't really notice. You're in the room doing your thing with your pro."

BBC Breakfast continues everyday at 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
