All The PlayStation Plus September 2024 Games For Premium And Extra Subscribers

The latest batch of games have been announced for the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, and in September, subscribers can look forward to neon-soaked VR action, a plucky day-one release, and the coolest of cats. Last month was primarily themed around around the TimeSplitters and Sword Art Online franchises, but this month, there's a more varied selection of games to check out, starting September 17.

If there is a common thread to be found, it's that this month's games are more focused on thoughtful and contemplative themes, ranging from the conspiratorial survival-horror of Chernobylite to the wonderful weirdness of Night in the Woods. Then you've got a road trip across a totalitarian nation in Road 96, oceanic despair in Under the Waves, and the doomsday atmosphere of Far Cry 5. For something more lighthearted, The Plucky Squire looks like a delightful new game to check out, and Secret Agent Clank is a fantastic PSP classic to revisit.

As a reminder, all PS Plus subscribers can also claim this month's free games, as Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, MLB: The Show 24, and Little Nightmares 2 are available to download.

The Plucky Squire (PS5)

A day-one release, The Plucky Squire follows the magical adventures of Jot after he discovers that he's a character in a storybook. After the villainous Humgrump rewrites the story, it's up to Jot and his friends to restore the book's happy ending--a quest that'll require players to jump between 2D and 3D worlds while fighting off boxing badgers and other malevolent forces in this living storybook adventure.

Under The Waves (PS5, PS4)

A narrative-driven adventure game that uses the depths of the North Sea to tell a story about grief, Under the Waves has a great techno-futuristic aesthetic to go along with its poignant tale. Described as a love letter to the oceans, the game explores themes of life-changing loss and moving on through the eyes of professional diver Stan as he dives deeper and deeper into the abyss of his own psyche.

Night in the Woods (PS5, PS4)

One of the hippest games released in the last couple of years, Night in the Woods is a wonderfully weird experience revolving around college dropout Mae Borowski. Back home in the town of Possum Springs, Mae reconnects with the friends she left behind, discovers strange events, and still finds time to play a few notes on her bass guitar in this enchanting game.

Chernobylite (PS5, PS4)

While Stalker 2 won't be out for a while, Chernobylite is a good substitute until then. Set inside of the Chornobyl exclusion zone--which was rebuilt with uncanny accuracy in the game thanks to 3D scanning technology--you’ll take on the role of Igor, a physicist and ex-employee of the infamous Chornobyl power plant. Set 30 years after his fiancee mysteriously disappeared, the zone has become populated with hostile military forces and mutant, and you'll have to be wary of them as you search for clues in a story about survival, horror, and love.

Wild Card Football (PS5, PS4)

If EA's football games are a little too realistic for you, Wild Card Football might be more appealing. It's designed to be a pick-up-and-play arcade-style football game featuring 7v7 team-focused gameplay, and it uses a Wild Card system that can change up the action instantly with special power-ups and rule-breaking abilities.

Space Engineers (PS5, PS4)

Looking for a game about about engineering, construction, exploration, and survival on distant planets? Then you'll want to check out Space Engineers, as you're given a virtual sandbox to play in, allowing you to build planetary outposts, spaceships, and more as you colonize the cosmos.

Road 96 (PS5, PS4)

A story-driven adventure inspired by the movies of Quentin Tarantino, The Coen Brothers, and Bong Joon-ho, Road 96 unfolds in a world of authoritarian rule and oppression. With hundreds of multiple endings, a killer soundtrack, and a cool vibe when you're not dealing with power-mad thugs, there's no shortage of unique stories that you can experience in Road 96.

Ben 10 (PS4)

You know the story by now: Ben Tennyson finds a high-tech watch that he uses to transform into powerful aliens, and he uses it to take on various bad guys. The kid-friendly game sticks to the script, as players can unlock all 10 alien forms in their battles against Ben's many foes.

Far Cry 5 (PS4)

A re-release for the PS Plus Game Catalog, Far Cry 5 doesn't stray far from the franchise formula. You've got a massive section of Montana to explore, doomsday cultists looking to stop you at every corner, and a scene-stealing antagonist who has laid siege to the small town of Hope County. Alongside some helpful allies who you can direct in battle or infiltration--like best boy Boomer the dog--this is a mostly predictable but enjoyable Far Cry adventure.

Pistol Whip (PSVR 2)

An exciting VR game, Pistol Whip is essentially a John Wick simulator that lets you dual-wield sidearms, blast your way through neon-soaked environments, and fire off rounds while a catchy techno soundtrack plays in the background. An easy-to-learn game where you have to dodge bullets while looking to claim the top spot on the leaderboards, it also has several cool campaign missions that range from Wild West shootouts to post-apocalyptic adventures.

Secret Agent Clank (PS5, PS4)

Originally released for the PSP, Secret Agent Clank lets you play as Clank, Ratchet, and Captain Qwark in an undercover adventure. Like other PSP games ported to the PS Plus Game Catalog, this version benefits from visual enhancements and several other quality-of-life upgrades.

Sky Gunner (PS5, PS4)

This classic third-person combat flight sim was originally released on the PS2, and it's soaring onto PS5 and PS4 this month. You can choose from one of three Skygunners--Ciel, Copain and Femme--and take on hordes of enemies in action-packed levels.

Mister Mosquito (PS5, PS4)

The final game added this month lets you play as one of nature's most annoying monsters, the mosquito. As Mr. Moskeeto, you'll need to drink up as much blood as possible if you want to survive the winter season, but the Yamada family won't go down without a fight, and they're hunting you down in this PS2 oddity. How do you triumph? By using stealth to your advantage and striking when the family is at its most vulnerable.
