ITV's The Chase fans plead 'just stop' as Shaun Wallace branded 'monster'

The Chase: Shaun Wallace writes 'screenplay' for contestant

Shaun Wallace was branded a "monster" after he showcased a new talent to a player on a brand new episode of The Chase. The ITV quizzer got as good as he gave as he taunted the first contestant on this evening's show.

Presenter Bradley Walsh welcomed four new contestants to the ITV quiz show, ready to pit their wits against one of the ruthless Chasers. Mario from Ipswich, Emma originally from Barnsley, Jacqueline from Surrey and Greg from Nottingham joined the line up in the hope of winning a potential prize pot worth thousands of pounds.

Up first was Mario, who hoped to spend any potential winnings on producing a horror film. Shaun, also known as 'The Dark Destroyer', goaded the hopeful contestant as he said: "So you want to make films, do you?

"Well apart from being a brilliant author and an accomplished poet, I write film scripts too. Do you want to hear it?"

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper, continuing: "By the way, this has been nominated for an Oscar. And a BAFTA.

"Mario enters studio. Mario loses. Mario exits stage left." The studio audience and Mario saw the funny side as they all burst into laughter.

The player complimented him as he said "it's good", but Bradley had some criticism as he added: "I mean it needs fleshing out."

Mario replied: "I mean, I'm a horror movie director. I'm always looking for a monster so..." Having a cheeky dig at his co-star, Shaun, Brad said: "Wow. Look no further!"

But fans at home were less than impressed with Shaun's talent. One user pleaded with him on X/Twitter, writing: "Just stop it Shaun #TheChase."

Another asked: "Shaun are you okay? #thechase." While a third quipped: "Shaun doing what Shaun does. #thechase."

Elsewhere, fellow Chaser Darragh Ennis recently explained what happens behind the scenes if contestants are concerned about their answers. Once a contestant himself, 'The Menace' wowed show bosses so much with his performance that he later became a much-loved part of the quizzer line up.

Appearing on JaackMaate's Happy Hour podcast, Darragh was asked:  "Has any contestant ever contested an answer?" To which, he explained: "Oh, all the time. That's perfectly fair. We have independent adjudicators on set all the time."

He continued: "There's a company called Beyond Dispute and a wonderful woman called Olivia does that. She's appointed to oversee everything.

"And if either side asks, you know, I want to get that checked. Then she, independent from the producers and the question setters verifies whether the answer is correct or not."

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV and ITVX
