Could Oasis return to Knebworth in 2026?

Oasis are reportedly considering a show at Knebworth House in 2026 – three decades on from their legendary performances at the site.

The Britpop band, who have reunited for a run of UK and Ireland stadium gigs next summer, delivered two career-and-era-defining sets at the Hertfordshire estate back in August 1996.

It came off the back of Oasis’ huge first two studio albums – 1994’s ‘Definitely Maybe’ and 1995’s ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ – and saw Liam and Noel Gallagher perform in front of 250,000 fans.

An unprecedented 2.5million people attempted to buy tickets (the equivalent of 2.7 per cent of the UK population). This massive interest meant that Oasis could have played a 20-night residency at the site, and it remains the largest demand for a show in British history.

Now, it has been reported that the Gallagher brothers could take to the stage at Knebworth House again in 2026 – which would mark the 30th anniversary of their first appearances there.

A source told The Sun newspaper’s ‘Bizarre’ column (via Music News): “A return to Knebworth sounds like a pipe dream but it’s now something that is being considered by Noel and Liam.

“They are fully committed to their comeback next year and want to see how they gel first before making this idea a reality.”

They continued: “Noel and Liam know that going back to Knebworth would be iconic and given the massive demand for tickets to the reunion tour, they know it would sell.”

Should Oasis sign up to perform at Knebworth, they would have the opportunity to break Robbie Williams‘ record after his three sold-out shows in 2003 surpassed their attendance record for the venue.

The source added: “And naturally, the prospect of breaking Robbie’s record makes the idea even more appealing.

“There is a love-hate relationship between the three of them, but Noel and Liam know it would be brilliant if they could take Robbie’s crown one last time.”

Henry Lytton-Cobbold, who owns Knebworth House, addressed the possibility of Oasis heading back to the location last month. Speaking to BBC News, he joked: “Wembley is a reasonable warm-up venue for Knebworth. Then get ready for a nice huge 30th shindig in 2026.

“That’s what the people want and they seem pretty good at doing what the people want. It would be a great way to have the best party of all parties.”

The 2016 documentary Supersonic ended with Oasis’ landmark ’96 Knebworth gigs. In 2021, the concerts were captured in the documentary film Knebworth 1996, and on an accompanying live album of the same name.

Liam Gallagher returned to Knebworth for two solo shows in 2022, and the singer later released a live album and documentary.

The frontman later claimed that the late Freddie Mercury was perhaps the only other frontman who he thought could have played a solo gig as big as Knebworth.

Reflecting on his 2022 shows at the stately home, Liam explained: “I’m still in shock that I got to play Knebworth two nights, 26 years after I played it with Oasis.

“I’m still trying to get my head around it. To have played to multiple generations at the same venue so many years apart was beyond Biblical. I’m so glad that we documented it.”

In a glowing five-star review of Knebworth 1996, NME called the performances “era-defining gig[s] that will live forever”.

It added: “For those who were there, the film provides a portal back to a golden age. For everyone else, it’s a reminder of those special teen years – when a plastic cup filled with warm lager and a sunny afternoon in a park makes for the biggest adventure of your life.”

Noel Gallagher previously said that Oasis’ Knebworth shows offered “a real snapshot of a band at its zenith”, adding: “Thank God we had the foresight to film it and thank God we had the foresight not to put it out for all these years.

“If we’d have put it out at the time, we wouldn’t be sat here now talking about it.”

In other news, Oasis recently announced two extra Wembley Stadium shows in response to the controversy surrounding the ticket sales for their initial 2025 reunion dates. The band have since confirmed details of the private ballot for the additional London concerts.

Upon Oasis confirming their long-awaited comeback, fans reminisced about how tickets to their iconic Knebworth gigs cost less than £25.
