BLACKPINK's Jennie Officially Signs Solo Deal with Columbia Records

BLACKPINK's Jennie has officially embarks on the next stage of her career, signing a solo deal with Columbia Records in partnership with her own record label and entertainment company, Oddatelier. She is expected to release her new solo single by October.

Born in Korea, the K-pop star joined entertainment powerhouse YG and formed BLACKPINK in 2016. The girl band has quickly become one of the most famous in the world and was the first music group and Korean female act to have five music videos accumulate one billion views each on YouTube. They are currently the most-followed girl group on Spotify, as well. One of four members, BLACKPINK is the highest-charing female Korean act on the Billboard charts and the only artist from the South Korea to headline Coachella.

As for her own individual successes, the artist has gone on to embark on her acting career, most recently starring in the controversial HBO series The Idol alongside Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd. Together with the two actors, she also teamed up for the track "One of the Girls." She previously spoke with Dua Lipa on a podcast last year about her acting ventures stating, "Acting was definitely one of the things that I’ve wanted to explore, but when I do something, when I decide to really go for it, I know I need to do it right." Jennie added, "And first of all, I wanted the new acting part of my life to be authentic, rather than just me trying to grab any opportunities that came to me – I really was being patient with with my first ever acting job. Which means when I was spending some time in LA last year, I actually got to meet Sam in person and I got to talk to him. And he talked me through the role that he wanted envisioned for me and everything – it really moved my heart."
