BBC EastEnders make huge announcement with a big twist for 40th anniversary
EastEnders have confirmed that the BBC soap is going live for a full episode as part of the celebrations for its 40th anniversary.
The announcement was posted on social media on Monday and there is set to be a "twist" as viewers will have the power to choose the outcome of one storyline.
Taking to X, the post read: "#EastEnders is going live for a full episode as part of the celebrations for its 40th anniversary but this time with a twist! The audience will have the power to decide the outcome of one storyline..."
The episode will take place in February 2025 and fans of the show will be able to choose the outcome of a love story. Details of who is involved remain under wraps for the meantime.

"In fact, as our regular audience will know, we have already seen the return of familiar faces and have many more nods to our history to come, which will all build up to our momentous anniversary week."
He added: "This time, as well as going live, we are adding an extra twist and for the very first time in the history of the show, and as a gift to the viewers, we are giving the audience the power to have their say in choosing the outcome of one of our storylines.
"While we’re still keeping the finite details of the 40th close to our chest, I can promise that it will be an unmissable week full of shocking twists that will change Albert Square, and the lives of those who live in it, forever."
The BBC soap went live with its first episode in 2010 to celebrate its 25th anniversary, where it was unveiled that Stacey Slater was the killer behind Archie Mitchell's murder.

Also during the episode was an iconic gaffe after Jo Joyner (Tanya Branning) mistakingly referred to Ian Beale as Adam Woodyatt.
During the hour-long special, it also included the return of Gillian Taylforth’s Kathy Beale after years of being assumed dead.
