Lucy Letby supporter attacks witness who helped convict serial killer

A medical witness in the Lucy Letby case has said they were psychically assaulted by a person with ‘pro-Letby beliefs’.

They said they reported the incident to Cheshire Police and the force is investigating, according to The Sunday Times.

Another medical witness said they had also been targeted by Letby supporters on social media and they are considering notifying police.

The child serial killer is currently serving 15 whole-life sentences after she was convicted of murdering seven newborn babies and trying to kill six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital. 

But doubts have been raised by some about evidence brought to trial which has led them to call her conviction into question.

Letby’s parents Susan and John claim it is ‘the biggest miscarriage of justice in British legal history.’

This has angered the parents of two babies – Baby E and Baby F – who were targeted by Letby at the Countess of Chester Hospital. 

Baby E was murdered by Letby after she caused an internal bleed and injected the baby with air.

Letby tried to kill Baby F with insulin but is one of the survivors of her attempts to kill them.

The pair were twins to a mother who had them through IVF and they have criticised those who claim Letby did not kill their children.

They say Letby supporters were not sat in the court for the whole trial and did not hear all of the evidence.

Some Letby supporters who have signed open letters calling for Letby’s convictions to be reexamined have also refused to identify themselves because they say this would jeopardise their career.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting hit out at Letby’s supporters on LBC.

He said: ‘It is crass and insensitive to be waging a public campaign in this way. Because we can debate it, you and I, listeners can debate it, we can read the newspapers.

‘We’re not the Criminal Case Review Board. We have an independent judiciary in this country, I think we have a fair and successful independent judiciary in this country.’

The Lucy Letby case forms part of The Thirlwall Inquiry which starts on Tuesday and will examine how the NHS failed to learn following on from the likes of other serial killers like Beverley Allitt and Harold Shipman.

It will be led by Barrister Sir Robert Francis KC and solicitor Tamlin Bolton, representing families of six Letby victims, said: ‘He has been asked to look back at things like Shipman, Beverley Allitt, the ­Mid-Staffs inquiry and consider the recommendations that followed.

‘What the recommendations were, how they were meant to be ­implemented, whether they were implemented, and how they have assisted or changed NHS practice.

‘The families will hopefully be asked for submissions and what they would like to see recommended to prevent this happening in the future.’
