My Mum, Your Dad is back for a second season. The ITV dating show has been dubbed "Love Island for middle-agers".

Hosted by Davina McCall, the series follows a group of middle-aged single parents as they head to a romance retreat for a second chance at love which, unbeknownst to them, is overseen by their adult children.

Series two's synopsis reads: "Once again the grown-up kids return to the surveillance room dubbed the 'Bunker' where they are entrusted with the fate of their single parents as they search for love in the retreat - watching along, there will be some new twists along the way as they get a front-row seat to how their parents fare in their bid to make a romantic connection and ultimately decide if they give their blessing to any potential matches."

Among those looking for love this year is a mum from Cheshire who's been single for 14 years. Operations manager Jenny, 51, says she has given online dating a go but all she finds are "psychopaths and sociopaths". She's joined on the show by son Malachi, 19.

On applying for My Mum, Your Dad, Jenny said: "Two friends separately sent me the link and said I should apply. They know I'm hopeless so they suggested this as an option to meet someone. It felt like fate!" Jenny is hoping to meet a man who knows his own mind, who wants to be in a relationship and isn't just "testing the water".

On her previous quests for romance, Jenny said: "I have exhausted everything, if I couldn't have got onto My Mum Your Dad, there was literally nothing left. I joined running clubs but again it was mainly a younger crowd. I tried different social things and I was introduced to potential dates via friends. I did try!"

But Malachi dished some dirt on his mother's dating habits, telling ITV ahead of the show's launch: "I think she just picks men based on the fact that she could pick them, as if they were her only option, which I think is a silly way to date. I do understand that she wants to settle down."

However, she's hopeful she'll meet the right person. Daughter Clare, 26, says the show is the perfect opportunity for her mum to "put herself out there" and "put herself first". The brand manager explained: "She always puts everyone else first. I think in a relationship you also have to put yourself first for it to work and make your priorities known."

Now his children are older, he's been left spending his evenings on his own with just his dog for company. Andy is hoping to get over his fear of letting someone into their family unit.

Daughter Issy, 19, a student, thought the show would be a fun and unique experience for the both of them. She said of her dad's best qualities: "My dad is very funny, very witty, outgoing and friendly. He's very loving, deep, genuine and kind."

Christian and Lucas (Image: ITV) Dad Christian and son Lucas

Christian said: "I thought sharing this with one of my kids would be great. It would be an experience. I knew it would be wholesome, the narrative in this is exactly what we are, middle-aged people looking for love."

Maria and Livia (Image: ITV) Mum Maria and daughter Livia

Radio presenter and events co-ordinator Maria, 51, from Surrey, found herself single after 16 years of marriage. Since turning 50, Maria has felt her dating life come to a halt.

She described her dating life the past two years as a "shambles" and said of the ITV dating show: "I thought it would be a nice way to get to know people and spend time with people. And whether or not a relationship blooms or not, it would be a great bonus but if it doesn't that's ok, you're still going to form bonds and relationships."

Her daughter Livia, 19, a beauty therapist, will be keeping a watchful eye on her during the show. Livia said Maria has been unlucky with the men she's chosen in the past, adding: "She needs to give men a bit more of a chance, she needs to stop being so fussy maybe."

Danny and Ellis (Image: ITV) Dad Danny and son Ellis

Danny, 49, from Essex has been out of the dating game for seven years. The sales controller says he's lost his confidence and struggles to picture why someone would want to be with him.

Danny explained: "I was married for a long time and other than that I have had one long-term relationship. Between the two, I tried a couple of websites but it was the most depressing thing in my life so I immediately came off them. I've got myself into a position whereby I'm comfortable and happy on my own with my life and now's the time to share it."

He'll be joined by son Ellis, 21. The chef said of his dad: "I think he's had long enough to feel sorry for himself and he needed a bit of a gentle nudge in the right direction."

Vicky and Anghard (Image: ITV) Mum Vicky and daughter Angharad

Assistant principal Vicky, from South Wales, has spent the last decade single and concentrating on life with her kids. She struggled with guilt after leaving her first marriage.

She said: "Even though I've dated for the last 10 years I've never really been in the position where I've wanted to settle down, I think dating has always been quite sufficient for me because my main priority has always been the children."

Now her youngest son Kai has turned 18, her priorities have changed. Vicky is joined by daughter Angharad, 28, on the show. The data manager said her mum is "Superwoman, full of life and always on the go!"

David and Tiana (Image: ITV) Dad David and daughter Tiana

Property manager and developer David, 53, admits dating has taken a backseat after focusing on raising his children. After watching the show's first series, David said: "It wasn't just about dating, there were group chats and I saw friendships building and other things going on.

"I felt I would benefit from the interaction with the other people. I put my life on hold to bring up my kids but now it's time to focus on me."

His daughter Tiana, 21, a student, is hoping to see David regain some confidence and put himself back out there.

Your Mum, My Dad starts at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX from Monday September 16. The show runs for two weeks.
