Tearful Paralympics fans rage 'Stop' as they fume over major Channel 4 'blunder'

Paralympics fans were left spellbound by the soundtrack to the 2024 Closing Ceremony as some "welled up" with tears and others experienced "pure goosebumps".

However, that was until the Channel 4 commentator was blasted for "talking over" the most poignant moments. The ceremony, held at Paris' Stade de France, kicked off with popular French singer Santa's operatic rendition of Johnny Hallyday's ‘Vivre pour le Meilleur’.

It then went on to showcase a band's rendition of 'Chariots of Fire' during the final flag parade and a moving performance of the French National Anthem led by disabled trumpeter Andre Feydy. There was also a version of Gloria Gaynor's disco classic 'I Will Survive' - and that was just for starters, with a host of electronic artists set to showcase their skills later in the evening.

Meanwhile, one fan tweeted: "It’s not just the Athletes who’ve broke world records. Tonight’s legendary performer @jeanmicheljarre set a record in 1979 with 1 million people attending his Place de La Concord outdoor concert - and shattered that record in 97!!" Despite the obvious interest in the musical entertainment, however, not everyone was happy with the way a Channel 4 host was presenting that coverage.

"Trying to listen to the band but can only hear the commentator tell us about his night last night. #paralympics #closingceremony," one fan took to Twitter to groan. Another exclaimed: "Can this guy stop talking over the music? #Paris2024 #paralympics #closingceremony".

A third begged: "Please stop talking, we want to hear the music!!! Jesus wept!!!!!!"

Others agreed, with one lamenting: "Can't believe they're talking over I Will Survive #paralympics."

Another sarcastically chimed in: "Are the @C4Paralympics team going to talk all over the music tonight? It’s not annoying at all @Channel4."

It comes after fans emotionally shared how part of the entertainment had left them in tears, with one declaring: "The theme to Chariots of Fire will never not make me well up. #Paralympics"

Despite the blip, fans praised the "absolutely incredible" moment for Britain after GB finished second on the Paralympics medal table in Paris this year, as runners up to China.

The appropriately dramatic Closing Ceremony at Stade de France marked the end of 11 days of action which had left hearts swelling with patriotic pride.

Ellie Simmonds and Rose Ayling-Ellis were both branded "top pundits" as they symbolically flew the flag for British diversity.

Meanwhile, the pouring rain didn't stop play for a second, as the singing, dancing and celebrations for able-bodied and disabled alike continued despite the dramatic weather.

One fan wrote: "Our UK athletes at the Paralympics 2024 have shown what true grit and heart look like. Your performances were nothing short of inspiring. Proud of every step you took to reach these heights. #Paralympics2024 ."

Another echoed: "Super-duper proud of how Paralympics GB have performed over these past 11 days. Super inspiring athletes the lot of them! Only 2 countries got more than 40 gold medals and we one of them!"
