Everton’s potential new owner John Textor has reportedly already lined up a new head coach to take over from Sean Dyche if he succeeds in his takeover attempt, with the ex-Burnley boss facing an early sacking.

American businessman Textor is trying to finalise a deal to take charge at Goodison Park while also attempting to sell his shares in Crystal Palace at the same time, despite the Toffees being in some financial difficulty and sat rock bottom of the Premier League table.

Dyche saw the finger pointed at him after blowing a two-goal lead to Bournemouth in the final few moments of the match, having led 2-0 after 87 minutes but losing the game through three late away goals.

The Sun claims that should the paperwork go through and Textor is put in charge on Merseyside, he wants to sack Dyche and hire Abel Ferreira as a replacement. The Portuguese coach led Brazilian outfit Palmeiras to the Brazilian title last season and has been touted for a job in England for several years.

Textor is said to be a big fan of Ferreira’s work, having seen his teams up close as the owner of rivals Botofoga, and wants to work with the 45-year-old at Everton. Ferreira resisted a big-money offer from Qatari club Al Sadd and penned a new contract with his current club until December 2025.

“I am a project coach and this is a club with a project,” Ferreira said. “When all the conditions are met, when you are in a place where everyone wants you, where you want to be and where your family wants to continue, it is always much easier to make these types of decisions. Also thanks to our players: this is the fruit of their work.”

If he is open to joining Everton, Palmeiras would require compensation but that has not put off Textor’s plan to hire him as Dyche’s replacement. Another option is reportedly AC Milan boss Paulo Fonseca, but he is considered an unrealistic target.

Textor was thought to be the driving force behind plans to replace Roy Hodgson with Oliver Glasner at Palace, a move that has widely been regarded as successful despite the Eagles’ failure to win any of their opening three league games.

But all plans hinge on whether a sale of Everton can be completed. Textor, who still needs to sell his 45 per cent stake in Palace, is the fifth prospective buyer since 2022 after periods of exclusivity with the Kaminski Group, MSP Capital, 777 Partners and the Friedkin Group all failing to strike a deal.

Textor outlined his intentions to buy a controlling stake in Everton last month after being knocked back by Palace in his attempt to increase his power at Selhurst Park, and has big plans should he take over from Farhad Moshiri.
