Liverpool star 'training separately' in fresh international injury scare for Arne Slot

Arne Slot has been dealt a mid-international break injury scare after one of Liverpool’s main men was forced to train on their own this week.

Slot has got off to a perfect start in charge of the Reds, winning all three of his first games as Liverpool boss.

Kicking things off with a comfortable victory over Ipswich Town on opening weekend, Slot’s maiden Anfield outing also ended in a 2-0 triumph.

But it was Sunday’s battering of rivals Manchester United that caught the eye the most, with Liverpool tearing Erik ten Hag’s side to shreds at Old Trafford.

The win heightened expectations among the Liverpool fanbase, with talk of a title challenge starting to pick up - something that wasn’t even in the conversation just one month ago.

However, Slot’s post-international break plans might be forced into a rethink if Alexis Mac Allister isn’t deemed fit enough.

The midfielder had to train away from the rest of his Argentina team-mates on international duty this week after suffering from adductor discomfort.

Mac Allister did feature in Argentina’s World Cup Qualifier against Chile this week and even got his name on the scoresheet during the 3-0 victory.

But the 25-year-old was hauled off with 10 minutes left to play and is reportedly a doubt for Tuesday’s clash against Colombia.

If Mac Allister is unavailable for Liverpool after the international break, starting with next weekend’s clash against Nottingham Forest, it will represent a major blow for Slot early on in the campaign.

Mac Allister has featured in all three Premier League matches, with it clear Slot is looking to channel most of Liverpool’s midfield output through the Argentine.

Speaking about Liverpool’s new boss and his role in the team last month, Mac Allister told ESPN: "I've been there for only a year, I'm used to changing coach. We have a new coach with a lot of ambition, and a desire to win. The club is on the right track.

After the Forest home game, attention switches to the Champions League for Slot and co.

A trip to San Siro is up first for the six-time European champions, as they play a repeat of the 2005 and 2007 Champions League finals against AC Milan.
