A familiar face appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain this morning, leaving fans absolutely outraged. While Ed Balls and Kate Garraway were at the helm of the show, they welcomed on regular guest former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng.

Alongside him, they also had failed Labour MP Jonathan Ashworth giving his two cents on the morning round up of newspapers. Together, the four presenters touched on politics including the cost of living crisis - particularly the universal winter fuel allowance.

He explained how the pensioner's benefit worked and why it was introduced as he said: "When the Labour government introduced the winter fuel allowance, the state pension only went up in line with prices.

"Because it was the 1990's and 2000's it was a period of low inflation, so that meant that some years the state pension only went up by small amount.

"So the government at the time, Gordon Brown, decided that because the pension is only going up a little bit each year, we will help pensioners with the winter fuel payment."

The former MP continued with his thoughts on the current government saying: "I think what the Chancellor has done, Rachel Reeves, is looked at the system now, where the pension increases much more each year."

He added that he thinks the current Chancellor has looked at this and thought "do we need the winter fuel payment?"

But fans on social media were outraged and branded GMB as a place for "failed politicians". Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one wrote: "Honestly, this show is simply a haven for failed politicians [eyeroll emoji] #Ashworth #Kwarteng #GMB".

Another echoed their thoughts, adding: "@tighabhinn @GMB #gmb Has become a care home for failed politicians [crying laughing emojis]".

While a third complained: "Instead of getting gigs on telly and more free money - maybe a few failed politicians should be in jail for massive amounts of damage they’ve done to the country. #GMB."

Someone else wrote: "Switch on #GMB - failed MP Ashworth and failed Chancellor Kwarteng on their (regular) gig, discussing failures of Govt and corporate power. Why not just admit #Grenfell failed poorer people, Post Office failed its staff. Upper echelons don’t care about ordinary folk!"

And a fifth penned: "@GMB out doing themselves by employing @JonAshworth and #kwarsikwarteng. Pair of c**ts. Normally you would pick a side. Not with these two. #gmb."
