BBC: Watch the Strictly Come Dancing 2024 launch trailer

Former professional Strictly Come Dancing star Ian Waite has revealed his predictions for the upcoming series of the show.

Discussing the new star-studded cast, the Dancing With The Stars Australia champion highlighted several celebrities who he believes will excel on the dance floor.

"I think JB Gill from JLS is going to be quite good because he's probably done some dancing in his shows," Waite told Buzz Bingo, suggesting that Gill’s past performance experience might give him an edge in the competition.

He also expressed high hopes for Shayne Ward, noting: "Shayne [Ward] is another; he just seems very talented at everything he does."

Waite had only good things to say about Eastenders star Jamie Borthwick, who previously appeared on a Strictly Christmas special.

"Jamie Borthwick from Eastenders was on the Christmas special last year, and he was very good. I think he’s potentially going to be phenomenal."

Commenting on Pete Wicks and Chris McCausland, he added: "I can't wait to see Pete Wicks, I’m intrigued to see how he does,"

The star also commented on Chris being visually impaired. "From a teaching perspective, I’m intrigued to see how the professional will teach Chris [McCausland], who is visually impaired.

They will have to do everything by touch, so he can really feel the steps and thrive. It will be interesting to see the teaching techniques of that partnership," he explained.

He went on to share his overall enthusiasm for the season, gushing: "I’m very excited for it. It’s a very diverse panel of celebrities."

Strictly Come Dancing returns this month as the BBC release the launch trailer for the 20th year of the hit dance show as audiences are excited for the show’s much anticipated return, and will be enjoyed across the UK when it airs on Wednesday 14 September on BBC One.
