Manchester United are reportedly preparing for a transfer approach from Galatasaray as the Turkish giants line-up a move for Brazil international Casemiro. The midfielder suffered a horror show in the Red Devils’ 3-0 Premier League defeat to Liverpool on Sunday and was hauled off at half time as manager Erik ten Hag got ruthless with the star.

Casemiro enjoyed a fine maiden campaign at Old Trafford after moving to England from Real Madrid in a £70million deal in 2022.

But his form fell off a cliff last season and he was embarrassed during his side’s 4-0 thumping at the hands of Crystal Palace at the start of May.

Casemiro was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia over the summer as United explored the possibility of offloading the 32-year-old.

But he remained at Old Trafford and started his side’s first three Premier League matches of the new campaign as United picked up just three points ahead of the international break.

Ten Hag has been tipped to turn his back on Casemiro following his woeful performance against Arne Slot’s side, where he gave away possession for both of the Merseyside team’s first half goals. And, according to ESPN, Galatasaray are considering a move for the player.

The Turkish side, who are managed by former Inter Milan ace Okan Buruk, are on the hunt for a new midfielder and have included Casemiro on their shortlist.

But his £300,000 weekly wages would prove problematic, so a loan agreement may hinge on whether United would be willing to cover part of his salary. The 13-time Premier League champions were open to offers for Casemiro all summer, but the expected interest from the Saudi Pro League failed to materialise.

The summer transfer window in Turkey is open until September 13, which means Galatasaray would be able to prise the Brazilian away from Manchester this month rather than waiting until January if they can thrash out a deal with United.

Galatasaray, who are playing in this season’s Europa League, have a whole host of former Premier League players in their team, with Hakim Ziyech, Davinson Sanchez and Michy Batshuayi all plying their trade at Rams Park. The club were also able to secure the services of Victor Osimhen on loan from Napoli at the end of last month after the striker failed to secure a move to Chelsea.

Ten Hag was quizzed about Casemiro following United’s defeat against Liverpool. And the Dutchman explained: “I met him after the game in the dressing room, so he didn’t leave the stadium at half-time.

“Why I subbed him was because we are 2-0 down against an opponent as Liverpool, with their qualities, they are very good.

“I think that in football everyone has to take responsibility. I’m sure he is a great character and he won everything in his career that you can imagine. I am sure he will keep contributing to our team and Casemiro is always winning so he will be there.”
