ITV GMB star issues apology after segment pulled off air

Good Morning Britain abandons live link after major disruption

Good Morning Britain's live segment was abruptly cut short on Wednesday when a news report was unexpectedly interrupted.

Senior correspondent Jonathan Swain was reporting live from Boulogne-sur-Mer about the devastating incident where 12 individuals lost their lives after a boat capsized in the Channel.

Jonathan, 51, who was speaking to Charlotte Hawkins in the studio, said: "I just want to explain what is happening where we are this morning, we are just a few hundred metres away from the beach itself. You can see a group of migrants here this morning attempting to get on this bus to head back to Calais. They came down here overnight to try and get onto a dinghy to make that crossing to get over."

However, his report was soon disrupted by an individual chanting on camera who began to follow him as he tried to continue presenting , reports the Mirror. Jonathan responded: "Yeah, yeah morning to you, good morning to you!"

He added: "Okay, excuse me, thank you very much, thank you, okay, merci, we're just trying to do a broadcast. Thank you very much!" before telling Charlotte, 49, and the audience: "Sorry, we've got this guy here, just trying to distance!"

The broadcast was swiftly taken off air and GMB returned to the studio where Charlotte apologised, saying: "Sorry, we'll have to leave that there because of the noise disruption there from Jonathan."

Viewers took to Twitter, now X, to commend Jonathan's professionalism on GMB. One viewer commented: "Jonathan Swain.. ever the professional. #GMB" while another expressed: "Forever the professional journalist Xx!"

In other news from Wednesday's programme, fans of Good Morning Britain were delighted to see Susanna Reid back on air. Her return was a welcome sight after her absence on Tuesday's episode, which saw ITV's Ranvir Singh step in alongside Ed Balls.

At the start of Tuesday's show, Ranvir informed viewers about Susanna's absence, stating it was due to a family emergency. She told the audience: "If you're wondering where Susanna is, one of her boys has been taken ill overnight and she needed to stay with him, so we are here for you this morning."

Thankfully, Susanna was able to rejoin the show for Wednesday's broadcast as she shared a snap of herself and Ed behind-the-scenes on social media. She simply captioned the image: "MORNING!" while Susanna smiled at the camera, Ed pulled a funny face with raised eyebrows and wide eyes. It wasn't long before viewers commented on her comeback, with many thrilled to see her back fronting the programme.

Susanna returned to the show earlier this week after having a lengthy break away for a summer break. In July, she announced viewers wouldn't be seeing her until September as the likes of Kate Garraway, Charlotte Hawkins and Ranvir took her place in the studio.

Good Morning Britain continues every weekday at 6am on ITV and ITV X.
