NCIS behind the scenes look sparks furious demands for it to be cancelled

NCIS: Origins - CBS teaser for Gibb's prequel series

NCIS fans have been given another behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming prequel, NCIS: Origins - but the comments are less than enthusiastic.

The new spin-off will follow Austin Stowell portraying a younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs (originally played by Mark Harmon) during his early years at the investigative service.

Previously called the NIS, the series will be set in the 1990s and introduce CBS viewers to a number of new agents as well as some familiar faces in their heyday.

Fans are looking forward to the latest in a long line of NCIS offshoots for the network, but many are still furious about the decision to cancel previous spin-off NCIS: Hawaii after just three seasons.

A new post on the NCISVerse’s official Instagram account was bombarded with furious comments from fans demanding Origins comes to an end before it’s even premiered.

The new gallery of images features series lead Austin, plus his co-stars Mariel Molino, Kyle Schmid, Diany Rodriguez and more.

Although fans have been given another close look at the upcoming crime drama’s vintage feel and exciting cast, it was clear that a huge number of them still have Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and her team on the brain.

“Well, you've paged this angry ncis hawaii fan,” one furious Instagram user replied.

“Stop canceling diverse shows in favor of rehashing old stories that have been told a billion times over.”

Another demanded: “Please cancel NCIS Origins and bring back NCIS Hawaii. It's what the fans want.

“And if you truly genuinely care about the fans, without which you guys wouldn't have the money for any of this, then you really should listen to us and should have been listening to us for the last several months.”

“With all due respect We know all about Gibbs. Bring back Hawaii,” a third commented.

And a fourth predicted: “Don't get too attached to this one either. It might be canceled too.”

However, not everyone was quite as disappointed in the direction the NCIS franchise is taking this year.

One fan leapt to Origins’ defence, penning: “One day I’d like to open a comment section on one of these posts and not read someone crying about Hawaii getting cancelled.

“I believe it’s time to move on now. It’s not coming back. It’s unfortunate but that’s the way network tv works.”

And another excited viewer added: “Literally the only prequel I’ll ever willingly watch!!!!”

Nostalgia seems to be winning for CBS as fans also have the highly anticipated return of Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) to look forward to.

Although, another season of the new spin-off set in Sydney is also gearing up for Paramount+, so there are clearly still fresh stories to tell in the NCIS universe.

NCIS: Origins premieres Monday, October 14 on CBS. NCIS is available to stream on Disney+.
