Coronation Street favourite emotional as they're forced to step down from job

Corrie: Adam Barlow debuts a new shorter haircut

Coronation Street viewers were left on the edge of their seats during Monday night's episode as a beloved character was forced to step down from their job. The shocking turn of events came after it was revealed that Joel was the culprit behind the brutal attack on Lauren Bolton, who later resurfaced in Weatherfield pregnant with Joel's child.

Despite his actions, Joel has yet to face charges due to insufficient evidence, and continues to torment Lauren. In the latest instalment, Joel issued another threat to Lauren, stating he had sought legal advice and planned to fight for custody of their son Frankie.

This prompted Dee-Dee Bailey, Joel's ex-fiancee, to report his threats to DS Lisa Swain at the local police station, where she discovered Joel's previous employment at Walcotts, a firm known for aiding vulnerable youths.

However, Dee-Dee's meeting with Mal Walcott proved fruitless, as he defended Joel's work ethic. Matters escalated when Joel confronted Dee-Dee, warning her to cease her investigations or risk him exposing her father's involvement in insider trading.

Determined not to be outmanoeuvred by Joel, Dee-Dee paid another visit to Walcotts where she successfully unearthed Joel's old work phone, promptly delivering it into DS Swain's hands at the police station.

In a shocking turn, Constable Kit Green later confronted Dee-Dee and her father Ed Bailey on the street, announcing a tip-off that necessitated an inquiry into suspected insider trading, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Subsequently, the ongoing investigation forced Dee-Dee to temporarily relinquish her position, plunging her into turmoil. In the unfolding drama, Adam Barlow, Dee-Dee's colleague, requested that she take a step back from their firm of solicitors, as her involvement was casting a shadow over their establishment.

With a tender approach, Adam conveyed that stepping aside was crucial during the probe, as her focus was compromised. He emphasised his obligation to her well-being in these trying times, assuring her of continued full remuneration.

Yet, receiving the directive left Dee-Dee incensed, culminating in a tearful confession: "You do realise this is exactly what Joel wanted! " The narrative promises further tribulations for the beloved character when Calum Lill, the actor portraying the nefarious Joel, ominously prophesied more trouble ahead.

Recently on This Morning, the actor issued a caution about his character, saying: "I think one thing we've seen with Joel is he's very selfish, driven and seems to lack empathy so I think the worst is yet to come from Joel, he's only going to get worse."

When probed about potential new victims and if Joel's former flame Dee-Dee could be at risk, the actor Calum hinted: "Who knows? I think it could even get worse than you think!".

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
