Crowdfunder launched for Ashley Beedle after suffering stroke

A crowdfunding campaign has been launched for legendary UK DJ and producer Ashley Beedle after he suffered a stroke earlier this year.

The artist had been battling stage four prostate cancer for the last four years and received the last treatment in October 2023, before he suffered another serious health episode in November.

According to the crowdfunding notes, Beedle suffered a brain bleed and seizure due to the rupture of a brain mass and in February 2024, during a 16 hour operation to remove the mass, he suffered a major stroke.

Beedle’s friends and family have now set up a GoFundMe with a target of raising £50,000, which you can donate to here. At the time of writing, the campaign had surpassed the original target to raise £78,824.

Funds will go towards providing access to private physio treatment, wheelchair friendly furniture, a hospital bed for home use and other home additions to make his living situation more comfortable.

The stroke caused him to lose movement in the leg and arm on his right-hand side, and took away his ability to speak.

“Ashley wants you to know that he is a survivor and not a victim and he says ‘thank you’ to all of you who contribute towards the fund,” read a press statement. “Since recovering in Kings College’s Critical Care unit, Ashley has proved himself to be a fighter and has surmounted all odds with an incredible sense of humour and determination that has impressed everyone involved.”

With the care and support of the NHS, the house DJ’s speech is slowly returning and he’s been discharged from a residential rehab centre, but will now remain in a nursing home for the foreseeable future until assisted living accommodation becomes available through the local council housing list.

“Sadly, the diagnosis is that Ashley’s mobility won’t return to his right side and he will be confined to a wheelchair requiring full time carers for the majority of his activities including bathing and getting in and out of bed,” the press notes continued. “Ashley and his family are now facing the reality of not just the physical and medical challenges, but also the many financial ones, having used all their savings to get
to this stage.”

Beedle is known for his musical contributions to X-Press 2, Black Science Orchestra and The Ballistic Brothers and more. He’s also one of the artists that’s namechecked in Daft Punk‘s 1997 track ‘Teachers’.
