Four killed in mass shooting on a train

Four people were shot dead on a train in Chicago early on Labor Day.

Police received a 911 call shortly before 5.30am on Monday about three people shot on a CTA Blue Line train at the Forest Park station at 711 Desplaines Avenue, WLS reported.

Arriving officers found four people gunned down. Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene and the fourth was rushed to Loyola University Medical Center and succumbed to injuries there.

A suspect in the mass shooting was captured on CCTV footage was arrested on a CTA Pink Line train, cops said. Police recovered a gun.

The CTA said that it ‘immediately deployed resources to assist the Forest Park Police in their investigation’ which included ‘review of all possible security camera footage, which proved to be vital in aiding local enforcement’.

‘Although this was an isolated incident, this heinous and egregious act of violence should never have occurred, none the less on a public transit train,’ stated the agency.

There is no lingering threat to the public, police said.

The victims’ ages and identities were not immediately known.

No details on the suspect have been released.

Blue Line service was stopped temporarily from the Forest Park to Austin stations, with shuttle buses serving customers instead.

The shooting is being investigated by Forest Park Police Department and the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.

‘We commend both the Forest Park Police Department for their thorough and collaborative efforts to provide information to partner agencies; as well as the Chicago Police Department whose quick actions led to the apprehension of a suspect in this matter,’ stated the CTA.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact the police department.

The Forest Park train station is about 10 miles west of downtown Chicago.

It happened outside of a busy commute day since Labor Day is a federal holiday.
