Netflix show's finale branded 'worst ending of all time' as it beats Game of Thrones

House of Cards returns for explosive sixth season

A fresh analytical report of IMBd ratings has unveiled the TV show deemed to have the most disappointing finale ever - and it's currently available on Netflix.

Certain show finales have gained notoriety over time due to their unsatisfactory conclusions and peculiar character choices.

Most recently, Netflix's The Umbrella Academy faced backlash for its fourth and final season's conclusion, with numerous fans expressing their disappointment.

Conversely, the highly popular Sky and HBO series Game of Thrones is still recalled for its successful run but contentious ending.

Viewers previously voiced their indignation about the fantasy series finale, which included a significant twist that many felt was inappropriate, reports the Mirror.

Another disputed show finale came from the much-loved sitcom How I Met Your Mother, where fans claimed the show's entire premise was undermined at the very end.

However, a new analysis has disclosed that the worst TV show finale of all time is actually another show, which initially premiered on Netflix in 2013.

According to a list compiled by Bo McCready, as reported by the Daily Mail, House of Cardsclinched the title for the most disappointing finale ever.

The list juxtaposes average episode ratings with finale ratings on IMDb, and it appears House of Cards experienced the largest drop in ratings for its conclusion.

This could be partly attributed to the show being compelled to cobble together a somewhat disjointed final season following the sudden departure of leading star Kevin Spacey.

Spacey's portrayal of the scheming Frank Underwood, alongside Robin Wright as his equally driven wife Claire Underwood, captivated audiences until the show's finale on November 2, 2018, which tanked with a dismal 2.6 out of 10 rating on IMDba shocking 55 per cent drop from its average episode score of 8.1.

In second place for disappointing finales is the anime adaptation of The Promised Neverland, which, despite an impressive average episode rating of 8/10, plummeted to a finale rating of 2.8/10, leaving fans dissatisfied with its drastic deviation from the original manga.

Not far behind is the epic Game of Thrones, which, after nine years of enthralling viewers, ended on a sour note with a series finale that only managed a 4 out of 10 rating, significantly lower than its high episode average of 8.8.

BBC's Killing Eve also left viewers wanting more, ranking fourth in the list of underwhelming conclusions; the series finale scored a mere 3.4 against an average episode rating of 7.9 in 2022.

Rounding off the top five is Dexter, the serial killer drama that concluded in 2013 with a finale that earned a paltry 4.7 out of 10, falling short of its average rating of 8.5, and leaving fans lamenting over what many called a "too depressing" ending.

House of Cards, Killing Eve, Dexter and The Umbrella Academy are all available to stream on Netflix now. The Promised Neverland can be accessed through Disney+, Apple TV or Amazon Prime and Game of Thrones is available through Sky and NOW TV.
