Jadon Sancho's brief 19-word parting message to Manchester United fans has sparked a wave of criticism following the winger's move to Chelsea. After spending three years at Old Trafford, the 24-year-old joined the Blues on a deadline day deal on Friday (August 30), with Chelsea set to pay between £20m-£25m after his stint - a heavy decrease on the £73m United spent to sign him from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.

Chelsea have committed to purchasing Sancho, assuming they secure a top-14 finish in the Premier League, a contingency that could nullify the agreement as reported by The Telegraph. Despite having faced challenges at Manchester United, Sancho expressed his gratitude to the club's supporters, colleagues, and staff following the announcement of his move.

However, some United fans were quick to point out the lacklustre nature of his farewell compared to a more heartfelt message when departing Borussia Dortmund after his loan earlier this year. Sancho's succinct send-off posted on X (formerly Twitter) did little to appease fans, who compared it against a lengthier tribute he penned previously.

His concise farewell stated: "Thank you to all the fans, staff and teammates [at Manchester United]. Wishing everyone all the best in the future." His farewell to Dortmund was a heartfelt six-paragraph tribute, where he lauded the efforts of former manager Edin Terzic, sporting director Sebastian Kehl, and CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke for orchestrating his return to the club that launched him into stardom, reports the Mirror.

Hundreds of angry fans took to social media to vent their outrage, with one irate supporter posting: "Let the hate watch begin. Its obvious he doesn't like us, and we have to return the energy 1,000,000 times," while another vented: "Good Riddance. Never wish to have a similar one near our squad ever again."

A third fan cast doubt on the support Sancho has received from some quarters of the fanbase over Erik ten Hag, commenting: "People actually back this guy over the manager who finished 3rd in his first season and took us to 3 Finals in 2 years and won 2 of them."

Sancho is set to bolster an already formidable attacking lineup at Stamford Bridge, vying for a spot alongside Noni Madueke, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, and Joao Felix. During his three-year tenure at United, the England forward scored 12 goals and provided six assists in 83 games.

Although his new team will face Crystal Palace on Sunday (September 1) afternoon, Sancho's transfer missed the 12pm deadline, ruling him out of the matchday squad. The 24-year-old's debut for Chelsea will be on hold until their visit to Bournemouth on September 14.
