BBC Breakfast star flustered after 'I'm available' joke during on-air dating discussion

BBC Breakfast: Sarah Campbell links to Jon Kay hosting in Portsmouth

BBC Breakfast star Roger was noticeably hot-under-the-collar after a discussion with his co-star Sarah Campbell about a Gen Z dating frenzy that is taking Spain by storm.

The pair had not been in agreement over the new love language that was taking Europe by storm, with Sarah adding at the start of the conversation: "What ever happened to talking?"

Discussing the Spanish supermarket dating trend, Sarah went on to explain how people are placing "pineapple" upside down in trollies to disclose their interest in a person they'd like to date.

Sarah went on to reveal that gazpacho soup - a tomato based dish, normally served cold - is the secret to unveiling your true feelings about a person who takes your fancy while picking up groceries at the store.

She explained that the culinary delight, most likened to tomato soup in the UK, could be the gatekeeper with alerting another shopper that you were keen, this if you placed that particular item in their shopping basket.

Dishing the intel on the new way of dating Sarah told Roger: "Very quickly, I'm going to take you to Spain." The presenter added: "Apparently Gen Z, this is how they shop for a match, apparently for a love match."

On the fence about it, Roger simply said: "Ok," as he allowed his co-star to continue to delve into hints and tips on the subject. Sarah revealed: "Apparently it's all about supermarkets, if you go to a supermarket and put a pineapple upside down in your supermarket that means that you are open to offers."

Continuing, Sarah declared: "My favourite one and this is definitely Spain, if you drop a gazpacho soup in a person's basket or trolley..." Worried about the possibility of mess, Roger cut in to ask if it was poured everywhere.

"I think it's placed in the packet," retorted his co-star as she went on: "It expresses a strong interest, apparently." Wondering how they could replicate the process in the UK.

The TV star questioned: "It made me think I wonder if there's an equivalent in British supermarkets. Bit of tomato soup dropped in a basket, dropped in a trolley," as her blushing co-star began to laugh awkwardly.

Sarah continued to quiz: "Maybe it could mean 'hello, I'm available." Slightly flustered over the topic, Roger shut down: "Who knows," before adding: "Moving on."
