Premier League clubs have been busy thrashing out late deals on transfer deadline day, with managers and club chiefs attempting to put the final part of their jigsaws together in the search of silverware. Manchester United and Chelsea have been prolific in the transfer market this summer, while Liverpool have been reserved under new boss Arne Slot.

When the dust finally settles on another summer of spending, teams will reflect on their transfer dealings and where it will leave them.

And Express Sport takes a look at which clubs came out as winners and which clubs came out as losers on transfer deadline day.

Manchester United have reinvigorated their squad during the summer window, with new transfer chief Dan Ashworth overseeing a number of wise transactions. The Red Devils have sealed the signature of midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, with his arrival being announced on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, United have confirmed that 18-year-old midfielder Sekou Kone has joined from Guidars FC in Mali, with the club clearly having one eye on the future.

Scott McTominay has netted the Red Devils nearly £26million after he was shipped off to Napoli on transfer deadline day. And with Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui also joining the north west giants in recent weeks and a string of out of favour players departing, Ashworth and Erik ten Hag will be pleased with their transfer business.

Chelsea

Chelsea have also enjoyed a glorious transfer window after capturing the likes of Pedro Neto, Joao Felix and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Like United, they have cashed in on a string of players who were surplus to requirements such as Romelu Lukaku and Conor Gallagher to bring in valuable funds.

On transfer deadline day, they agreed a loan deal to offload Trevoh Chalobah to Crystal Palace but missed out on Ivan Toney. With the deadline approaching they were still trying to thrash out deals for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, while attempting to ship Raheem Sterling off to Arsenal.

Arsenal edged towards a temporary deal for Sterling, with the Gunners locked in talks with Chelsea over a loan move late into the evening on Friday. A transfer would cap a fine window for the north London giants, who have already brought in defender Riccardo Calafiori and midfielder Mikel Merino.

David Raya has signed on a permanent basis following a successful temporary move from Brentford, with Neto coming in on loan as his back-up after Aaron Ramsdale was sold to Southampton.

LosersLiverpool

Liverpool were slow to get going in the summer transfer window, with Slot taking his time to assess the players he already had at his disposal before making a decision on the additions he needed.

The Dutchman ultimately secured the services of Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and Italy winger Federico Chiesa. But it was an underwhelming transfer deadline day from the Reds, with Slot unable to add a defensive midfielder to his ranks.

Newcastle

Newcastle were also quiet on transfer deadline day, although they did attempt to turn Nottingham Forest’s heads with a £35m offer for winger Anthony Elanga, according to reports. Forest rejected the approach, with the Magpies having to settle for the signings of Lewis Hall, Odysseas Vlachodimos and William Osula earlier in the window.

Man City

Manchester City also failed to act on transfer deadline day and could be worried about a lack of numbers after offloading the likes of Julian Alvaraz and Joao Cancelo during the window as well as sanctioning Kalvin Phillips’ loan move to Ipswich.

They did bring in winger Savinho, however, with boss Pep Guardiola securing Ilkay Gundogan’s return following his season at Barcelona. So the Citizens will still be confident of retaining their league trophy at the very least.
