Newcastle 'close in on big-money transfer' for Prem star with Man Utd set to benefit

Newcastle are reportedly closing in on a big-money deal for Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga. And the winger’s former club Manchester United are in line to benefit after inserting a sell-on clause when they shipped him off to the City Ground last summer.

Elanga featured 55 times for the Red Devils first-team but only managed to contribute four goals and four assists.

He left United’s pre-season tour of the USA last summer to complete a move to Forest after the east Midlands team paid an initial £15million to secure his services.

Elanga enjoyed a decent maiden campaign in Nottingham as he appeared in 36 Premier League matches. But his time at the City Ground appears to be drawing to a close, with talkSPORT reporting that Newcastle are exploring a big-money move for the 22-year-old.

The Magpies appear to be on the hunt for attacking reinforcements after finding the back of the net just twice in their opening two Premier League matches of the season.

Eddie Howe’s team also struggled to hit the back of the net in their Carabao Cup clash with Forest on Wednesday night, with Joe Willock grabbing his team’s only goal of the game as the north east giants won the match following a penalty shootout. Elanga came on as a substitute during that clash after starting Forest’s opening two league matches.
