Wimbledon captain Jake Reeves celebrated his side’s Carabao Cup victory over Premier League Ipswich by getting the drinks in on the Plough Lane concourse. A Dons fan spotted the midfielder, who was still in his full kit, at the bar after a memorable penalty shootout triumph.

The League Two side are into the third round of the competition, with Newcastle awaiting, and Reeves was keen to celebrate in style. @JimHampshire shared a photo of the 31-year-old waiting at the bar after the match.

It is unclear if the former Brentford player was buying alcoholic beverages or something softer.

Reeves played a crucial role for Wimbledon, assisting Matty Stevens to score the Dons’ second goal and put them 2-1 ahead. Ipswich forward Conor Chaplin equalised with four minutes remaining.

Despite Reeves missing his penalty in the shootout, Wimbledon goalkeeper Owen Goodman saved twice to send his side through to the third round. Manager Johnny Jackson was delighted to finally beat his Ipswich counterpart Kieran McKenna and claimed the victory was the best result of his career.

“It’s probably the highlight so far,” the 42-year-old said.

“Certainly one of them anyway. This is the third time coming up against Kieran McKenna as a manager and it hasn’t gone great for me in the previous couple.

“To win tonight against a talented young coach is nice on a personal level. I’m really pleased for the football club. To have a night like this against a Premier League – beating a Premier League team – is outstanding.”

Wimbledon academy graduate Isaac Ogundere scored their winning penalty.

Jackson continued: “You need boys who fancy it in those moments and his hand went straight up. He (Ogundere) does actually practice penalties, so it’s nice he had that confidence in himself.

“I said to the lads: ‘There will be no repercussions if it doesn’t go our way.’ Hopefully, that brought them a little bit of calmness as well. They took them really well.”

Wimbledon - FA Cup winners in 1988 - will hope for a cup run and host Premier League outfit Newcastle in the third round. The Magpies defeated Nottingham Forest in the second round, also winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

All Premier League clubs are involved in the third round after teams competing in Europe entered the draw.
