It has been 10 years since the second film came out, but The Inbetweeners 3 might finally be on its way.

Simon Cooper portrayer Joe Thomas provided a teasery update while chatting to James Gill on his Always Be Comedy podcast this week, confirming that revival discussions have "happened in various forms".

Referring to his co-stars Simon Bird (Will McKenzie), James Buckley (Jay Cartwright) and Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland), the 40-year-old elaborated: "All of us feel it would be nice to do. We're all still around, we're all still in each other's lives. We all still like each other.

"And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it. I feel like we all still really like each other. We've all been able to go away and get various monkeys off our backs, in terms of things that we felt we needed to do other than The Inbetweeners to prove something to ourselves."

As for what form this next disastrous lads trip could take - the foursome previously holidayed in Malia and Australia across the two sitcom spin-off films - Thomas suggested that a stag do in Las Vegas has been mentioned.

"Everybody’s anxiety would be, 'Will it be as good?'. That is what we would be going in with," he went on to reflect, before explaining why another load of TV episodes wouldn't cut the mustard.

"I don't think they could do another series. You'd have to be a movie. You'd have to have a very, very clever device for doing another series. A movie, I think works with the right idea. It would be challenging to do another series, just because of the timeline. But with the film, there are all sorts of options."

Earlier this year, Thomas, who also starred in university comedy Fresh Meat, revealed to Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe that his character's infamous testicle catwalk was shot for real in The Inbetweeners.

"They said, 'Do you want a prosthetic testicle?' But I thought, 'That’s not exactly dignified. I mean, the show is what it is. That's my genuine testicle," he revealed, much to the pair's incredulity.

"By the end of the day I was so broken that I didn’t really care whether it was out or not. I was like, 'It's out.'"

The Inbetweeners is streaming on Channel 4OD.
