Outlander fans get candid about characters they 'hate' - and it's not Black Jack or Bonnet
Outlander viewers have taken to social media to share their candid thoughts about the characters they “hate”, with one admitting their most despised persona can “never be redeemed” in their eyes. The historical fantasy show, which stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire Fraser and Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, has gained a loyal fanbase since it first aired a decade ago back in 2014.
Outlander fans are always ready to fiercely defend the Starz show and the Diana Gabaldon books on which it is based. They’re also used to hating the show’s major villains, such as ‘Black Jack’ Jonathan Randall (Tobias Menzies).
That said, some fans on social media also decided it was time to be honest about other characters from the series who also rubbed them the wrong way. Taking to Reddit, @clionaaa asked fellow Outlander viewers: “Who do you HATE?”
They wrote: “I want to know who it is from the TV show that you hate, but not the obvious ones. We obviously all hate Black Jack, Bonnet (Ed Speleers), Le Comte (Stanley Weber), Laoghaire (Nell Hudson) and the obvious villains.
“I want to know random characters people just hate, maybe for no reason at all,” they added with a mischievous laughing emoji. “Mine is Roger (Richard Rankin). I have hated him since the start and nothing he does will ever redeem him for me.” (sic)

In the comments section, other fans shared their own admissions about characters they couldn’t stand.
One penned: “Geillis (Lotte Verbeek). What a kooky, conniving and manipulative, selfish weirdo! What she did in Jamaica made my stomach turn. Those poor boys.”
“Hard agree, I liked her at first but that was the final nail in the coffin for her,” another chimed in, as a third fan complimented Verbeek’s acting skills, adding: “Loved the actress in the show tho. She really sold it.” (sic)
Another fan pointed out: “People seem to forget that book Frank (also played by Tobias Menzies) is kinda racist and a little bit aggressive when he drunks.” (sic)
“Ugh I can’t stand the man in the show or the books,” a second agreed, as one more explained: “Show Frank is a d***head too. All he does is badger her for sex, cheat on her, and complain when she gets back.
“I think she was perfectly fair when she straight up told him she didn’t love him, she met someone else and was pregnant by him. Frank had zero claim to Bri, and zero right to treat Claire like he did.” (sic)
While another disagreed, arguing that Claire had caused most of her own problems. They hit back: “The show takes place in the 1950’s, and Claire would have been labelled a ‘whore’ in those days.
“She wouldn't have gotten into medical school, have become a successful doctor, more would many men take interest in her, and her life would have essentially been in shambles.
“Frank did her a moral and social favour, and she was consistently cold to him. Claire’s the absolute worst character in the show, and 95% of the conflict stems from Claire’s stupidity and selfishness.” (sic)
Another fan confessed: “I love to hate Bonnie Prince Charlie (Andrew Gower)! In the books he drove me nuts but the actor who portrays him is soooo good at playing a little shit. Mark me! He makes me cringe so bad.” (sic)

“I'm a fierce defender of my husband, and anyone who would have talked to him as Jocasta did to Roger would have been history. Just don't like her, plus she lied to Jamie about the frenchmen's gold.” (sic)
While yet another fan mused in response to the original poster’s admission: “People have a lot of opinions about Roger.
“There's no one I really hate, even the villains are good villains so I wouldn't say I hate them,” they added, before acknowledging: “But I find Lizzie to be a bit annoying.”
