GMB's Richard Madeley reveals he's 'coming to a stop' in his TV career after illness

Kate Garraway explains Richard Madeley absence on GMB

Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley made a shocking revelation about his impending retirement from television while live on ITV.

On Tuesday (August 27), Richard and co-host Charlotte Hawkins interviewed Olympic gymnast Max Whitlock, who has won six Olympic medals in his career. Discussing Max's decision to retire at 31 and inspire future athletes, Richard pondered what it felt like to have a "hard stop".

This led to Richard reflecting on his own career, confessing that he is "slowly coming to a stop" hosting GMB several days a week as he seemingly gears up for retirement.

Social media users picked up on the comment, with one user asking: "Did Richard say he's retiring in that #Olympics segment? Wonder how long he'll stay on #GMB for then..."

However, Richard demonstrated he's still on top form during an interview with Labour MP Ellie Reeves, interrupting her with: "I'm sorry to interrupt so early in the interview, but you're simply not answering Charlotte's question!" as she evaded questions about "sleaze" in No. 10 Downing Street, reports the Mirror.

This follows Richard's absence from the show last week due to illness, with Kate Garraway explaining he was feeling "poorly".

Richard was substituted by Sean Fletcher on the show, as Kate Garraway clarified: "Good morning! Now if you were expecting to see Richard Madeley here, I think Richard Madeley was expecting to be here as well! He's feeling a bit poorly this morning, so we've got lovely Sean, which is fantastic."

Sean chimed in: "So we wish Richard all the best, I get up in the morning and I log into the running order at home. I see my initial by all the stories that you would already have. Then I saw my initial on every other story. I thought there was a mistake, a typo! ".

"Suddenly I realised I had seven missed calls and I realised that something was up."

Kate added: "As you say, we wish Richard all the best. Hopefully, he'll be feeling better later today."
