BBC Breakfast host forced to apologise to Carol Kirkwood after stark warning

Breakfast: Ben apologises to Carol for his weather report

BBC Breakfast host Ben Thompson was forced to apologise to Carol Kirkwood on Tuesday morning after he made his own weather predictions. Turning to Sally Nugent, Ben began: "So now that the Bank Holiday weekend is over, the weather is getting really good."

The duo laughed as Ben said: "Carol can tell us more, good morning." Despite seeing the funny side, Carol warned: "That is not the forecast by the way," as she continued to share the latest weather forecast for the week.

As the meteorologist wrapped up her segment, Ben interrupted to apologise: "This is why we leave it to the professionals, Carol. That is much more accurate after my terrible forecast, I am sorry."

"Bless you, Ben," Carol laughed as Ben added: "See you soon."

Each morning, Carol gives a glimpse into the weather forecast on social media.

"Good morning," Carol penned on X before sharing a snap of this week's temperatures. Relatively mild start this morning. "This time yesterday, the temperature in Aboyne in Aberdeenshire was 4C!"

She later tweeted alongside a picture of the pollen count across the country: "Today's pollen levels."

Fans rushed to the comment section, with many sharing pictures of the weather in their areas, one replied: "Morning Carol. Still dark here in Spain. Another half an hour then we can walk the dog. Say hello to Ratta. Have a good day."

Another commented: "Good Morning to you Carol, on a pleasant start of the day near Heathrow."

"Good Morning Carol hope you enjoy your day," another shared while a third added: "Good morning Carol, have a terrific Tuesday, stay safe & take care." (sic)

Elsewhere in the show, Ben and Sally discussed the announcement Oasis is due to make at 8am. Fans are hoping Liam and Noel Gallagher will be announcing their first tour dates since they split in 2009.

However, while some viewers were thrilled about it, others weren't happy that Sally and Ben dedicated so much of the show to the news.

"Another no news day #BBCBreakfast," one fan complained while another pleaded: "Please stop talking about Oasis, you said it all yesterday."

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
