Mariah Carey Says Her Mom Patricia and Sister Alison Died on Same Day

shared that she is grieving the deaths of both her mother and sister after they died on the same day.

“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” Carey, 55, said in a Monday, August 26, statement to People. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

The singer did not provide any additional details about the cause of death for her mom, , or her older sister, . Patricia was 87 years old while Alison was 63.

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” Mariah continued. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

Patricia was married to from 1960 to 1973. In addition to Alison and Mariah, the pair were also the parents of son . (Alfred died in July 2002 at age 72.)
