Drake hints at sequel to his Kendrick Lamar feud

Drake has signalled that his epic feud with Kendrick Lamar may not be done just yet, with hints at the possibility of a sequel to come.

The rapper has been posting mildly cryptic messages on his social media channels that draw from moments of unexpected comebacks in pop culture, suggesting that despite the outside world’s verdict that Kendrick took round one, the fight may not be over.

One post consisted of an image from the 1987 John Woo action movie A Better Tomorrow II, which featured actor Chow Yun-fat making a return despite being killed off in the first film, while another quoted basketball coach Rasheed Wallace, who famously predicted his side Detroit Pistons’ unlikely comeback in the Eastern Conference Finals.

DJ Akademiks, a close confidante of Drake’s, posted that the Toronto rapper had new music “on the way”, and seemed to dismiss rumours that an upcoming single would sample Michael Jackson’s ‘Man In The Mirror’.

The saga dominated the hip-hop agenda for several months, with numerous rap luminaries chiming in to share their thoughts, including André 3000, who said it made him feel “a little sad”, and Questlove, who called it “wrestling match level mudslinging and takedown by any means necessary”.

More recently, Mustard – who produced ‘Not Like Us’ for Kendrick – branded Drake as a “strange guy”, while billionaire Michael Rubin banned that particular song from his annual party this year, due to Drake’s attendance.

Most observers judge Lamar to have won the feud, which had been bubbling since 2013, and exploded earlier this year when Kendrick featured on ‘Like That’ from Metro Boomin and Future’s joint album ‘We Don’t Trust You’ and resulted in the two trading scathing diss tracks.

Lamar dropped ‘Not Like Us’ – his fourth Drake diss track – in May, telling the Canadian rapper: “Say Drake, I hear you like ’em young/ You better not ever go to cell block one/ To any bitch that talk to him and layin’ love/ Just make sure you hide your little sister from ’em,.”

The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 and broke the Spotify record for the most streamed rap song in one day.

In other news, Drake dropped 100 gigabytes of data last month, including three new songs. He also appeared on two songs on the new Camila Cabello album, and announced a new album with PartyNextDoor.
