Coronation Street’s Evelyn Plummer is a fan-favourite on the iconic ITV soap and now Maureen Lipman has talked about her future on the cobbles.

Six years ago, Tyrone Dobbs (played by Alan Halsall) decided to look into his parentage which is how he came across his gran Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman).

Fast forward to now and Evelyn has cemented her place in Coronation Street, living with Tyrone, Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) and their daughters Hope (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby (Billie Naylor).

The introduction of Evelyn’s daughter Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney), Tyrone’s mum, earlier this year has also shined a spotlight on the pensioner’s past before getting her feet under the table at number nine.

The 78-year-old actress has now appeared on Love Your Weekend With Alan Titchmarsh to talk about her career, including her time on Coronation Street.

Thankfully, it’s good news for Evelyn fans as Lipman won’t be leaving the ITV drama any time soon.

During the interview, Alan stated: “You’ve been signed up to do another year [on Coronation Street].”

Lipman replied: “I have been signed up to do another year, yes.

“It’s good for you, it keeps you on your metal, my goodness me.” She continued: “I mean everything is still completely fascinating to me."

She continued: “I don’t get bored with this business and I don’t suppose you do either”, with Alan agreeing: “No, it’s stimulating.”

Evelyn is in the middle of a current major storyline as Tyrone’s ex-lover Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu) is back on the scene, revealing that she had his son Dorin.

But with the gangsters from the trafficking ring still after her, Alina has asked to leave Dorin temporarily in his and Fiz’s care until the trial is over but when will it be safe for her to return?

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV and ITVX.
