Sam Smith makes cheeky promise to fans minutes into BBC Proms show

BBC Proms: Sam Smith reassures fans

Singer Sam Smith cheekily reassured the audience at the BBC Proms that they wouldn't be baring their bottom during the performance. The pop star took to the stage at the historic Royal Albert Hall for a night of hits and career celebrations, broadcast on BBC Two on Saturday evening (August 24).

They performed their biggest hits including I'm Not the Only One and Stay With Me, as well as some special covers. After performing Good Thing, Sam addressed the crowd, introducing their orchestra and performers.

However, they also made a humorous promise, saying: "Before I introduce you to some incredibly important people, I just wanna say to everyone here that don't worry - I'm not going to get my bum out! The clothes are staying on, OK? This is going to be an appropriate show - even I know there's a time and a place."

The joke was well received by fans and audience members alike. The 32 year old singer's recent live shows have included them dancing in a corset and shaking their bare bottom, with a notorious performance of Unholy at the 2023 Brit Awards attracting over 100 complaints to Ofcom.

Viewers were thoroughly entertained by a delightful joke from the performers, prompting an online user to exclaim, "That was brilliant! ! " while another echoed the sentiment, saying, "Loving Sam Smith at The Proms.", reports the Mirror.

One admirer took to social media to say: "Love him or loathe the lad, but there's something very cathartic about Sam Smith, the Choir and the BBC Orchestra at The Proms."

An enthusiastic fan remarked, "Watching Sam Smith at the Proms, the wonderful BBC Orchestra, Soul singing choir, it's really beautiful, reminds me so much of the sadly missed Luther Vandross. If you get a chance it's a must see".

Another viewer expressed their enjoyment, saying, "Watching Sam Smith At The Proms and it is quite wonderful."
