A junior staff member at The One Show was reportedly "impressed by Jermaine Jenas' star quality" before stepping forward to report his alleged inappropriate behaviour.

The former Match of the Day and One Show presenter has now been dismissed by the BBC after the broadcaster received accusations of misconduct.

In a statement to Mirror Online, a BBC spokesperson confirmed: “We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting lineup.” Jenas, however, has remained adamant that "there are two sides to every story" and is consulting his legal representatives as the situation unfolds.

The controversy began last month when the BBC reportedly received a formal complaint regarding text messages allegedly sent by Jenas. After one woman came forward with concerns, other female employees also followed suit, raising additional complaints.

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

According to The Sun, a junior staff member was the first to raise concerns, reporting that she had received unsolicited flirty messages from Jenas. The publication noted that the staffer "may have been impressed by his star quality" initially before growing uncomfortable.

A source explained: “The first complaint was raised after Jermaine flirtily messaged a female member of staff on The One Show, and she raised her misgivings in a formal capacity. The BBC knows it cannot now ignore concerns or complaints so after immediate routine enquiries the decision was taken to take him off air, and terminate his contract. They acted swiftly and decisively."

The source also clarified that Jenas’ actions were "absolutely nothing" like the misconduct case involving former BBC News presenter Huw Edwards, emphasising that there is "no suggestion of illegality".

On Thursday afternoon, BBC Director of Sport Alex Kay-Jelski sent a concise email to staff, stating: “I wanted to let you know that Jermaine Jenas is no longer working for the BBC.”

The abrupt announcement took many by surprise, with one insider telling The Mirror: “It was brutally short and to the point. It felt like there was no messing around.”

Another source added: “The staff WhatsApps were suddenly abuzz with what was going on. There have been whispers that something was afoot, but bosses had kept the investigation close to their chest.

"It’s a very sensitive landscape at the BBC at the moment with the various scandals that have beset it of late. Any hint of workplace misconduct and they needed to come down on like a ton of bricks.”

Staff members at The One Show were largely unaware of the allegations until Thursday morning, when the situation was brought to light. Jenas issued a statement through a spokesperson to The Sun, saying: "Right now I can't talk about it. I can tell you I'm not happy - there are two sides to every story - and I’m going to be speaking with my lawyers on the issue."

Jenas had joined The One Show in 2020 and was promoted to a permanent hosting position the following year.

Even as news of his sacking broke, Jenas remained composed while hosting talkSPORT Drivetime. He briefly addressed the situation on air, saying: "Like I said, I'm not happy about this situation. You know, I'm going to be speaking to my lawyers about it is all I can say right now."

He declined to comment further when asked whether the allegations involved more than one colleague or if he was shocked by the complaints.
